If you are looking for natural, then I'd suggest just letting your body do what it does.

Here's a link that might help save some money and time :)

    Hey MFPers.

With the rapid increase of new users there are many posts coming up asking for detox recommendations. I figured this would be a good time to provide some links explaining why you generally don't need to detox or cleanse.

Your body is readily equipped to handle toxins and in the event it cannot, you're in far greater need of medical attention than you are of any particular beverage or liquid diet.

For purposes of weight loss, you're essentially choosing to replace food with liquid calories (depending on the cleanse, but most fall under this category) resulting in what usually amounts to a VLCD. This isn't typically a good idea for a variety of reasons (mood, hunger signaling, skeletal muscle maintenance, performance) and moreover it represents yet another short-cut attempt rather than establishing proper habits.

The intent of my post isn't to insult anyone who comes here with the misinformed belief that they should detox/cleanse. The purpose is to provide information to hopefully save someone the wasted time, money, and potential ill health effects, not to mention the likely weight regain.

    Water.
If you want add in some cucumber, lemon, mint, and ginger. According to pop sugar (http://www.popsugar.com/fitness/Detox-Lemon-Cucumber-Ginger-Mint-Water-25695903) they:
Lemon: Lemon water makes for a powerful detox drink; lemon juice helps to cleanse and alkalize the body. Add one thinly sliced lemon to a large pitcher, or squeeze fresh lemon juice into your glass.
Mint: Mint adds a touch of sweetness without the sugar to your water, and it also helps settle your stomach and aids in digestion as well.
Cucumber: Cucumber water isn't just for spas. Adding a few slices of cucumber to your water makes for excellent rehydration, and cucumber contains anti-inflammatory properties, as well.
Ginger: The spicy root helps cleanse out your system, aids in digestion, and settles your stomach. A little goes a long way, so start with a few thin slices or grate a tiny piece into your water and taste before adding more as necessary.

...But plain water is good too.

You body isn't toxic. It gets rid of things it doesn't want or cannot use. If it becomes incapable of doing that, you'll need a doctor, not a cleansing.

Don't waste your money. Don't contribute money to scam artists. If you have extra money you don't need, give it to charity.

If you want to help your body, eat healthy and exercise. :)

    1) Eat many vegetables and a few fats, but don't be afraid to add in protein, fruit and grains

    2) Drink much water

    3) Shake yo' booty (or other form of exercise, as you prefer)

Unfortunately all of the above doesn't hold up to actual science. "Cleansing" is a great pitch to sell product or "recipes" to those who believe their bodies are toxic. If a body were actually riddled with toxicity, then that person would be in a hospital bed receiving treatment.

But water is great for hydration and essential for optimal health.

    ^^^

The best thing that ever happened to me was deciding there's too many gimmicks, fads, advice, media articles about do this / do that / cut this / keep that .. I threw it all out of my head and went back to basics

    - eat at a calorie defecit
    - get fit and strong

you know what - most success I've ever had, lasted the longest I've ever lasted and I feel great

    try it

it's great to cut out the noise

+10 and to get you there I suggest a lot of brussels sprouts and other high fiber foods.

I think the best natural detox would be to let your liver and kidneys process any toxins in your body.

Outside of that eat in a calorie deficit and poop out what the body doesn't need.

On a more serious not try eating food with a high soluble fibre content.

Whatever you do don't go down the road of magic pills or commercial detox's - they do not do anything!

Sadly there is no such thing...
As tennis dude said, your liver and kidneys will do that for you.
Eat a well balanced diet with plenty of variety, exercise every day and get plenty of rest/sleep and you'll be A OK!

    The good H2O

  • NOT soluble fibre because it slows transit time through your digestive system and it may feel counterproductive.

The best natural detox is the natural ability of your lungs, skin, kidneys etc to excrete waste and your liver enzymes to detox the 'toxins'. The best part is that it's free!

Why not just water? Can't get much more natural than that.

Yes soluble fibre, unless you are entering your poops in for competition then obviously fill up on non fermentable insoluble fibre!

But don't expect your gut flora to feel very satisfied!

Your body replaces itself over time. Why not just start putting good whole foods into it and let it do what it does naturally?

    What's wrong with fats?
