BMR, TDEE confusion

Ok, I browsed the topics on tdee and BMR, but I'm just not getting it. My TDEE is 1830 and BMR is 1529. I am 29, 5' 6 1/2" tall, weigh 161, and am not very active yet. I am also breastfeeding, which I think is around 200-300 extra calories/day (13 month old who eats solids too).

How many calories should I be eating? Thanks!

(Sorry in advance, I'm sure it's been asked a lot, but it's confusing to me! )

I think with less to lose a 5 or 10% cut of TDEE is suggested, but while breast feeding I'm not sure.

I have 15-20lbs to lose. My milk is great, I'm sure it'll be fine. If the supply drops i can add more calories. He's older too, so it's not a huge concern anymore:)

So only 10% of TDEE, 1647 is what I should eat? That seems high...last time i did 1200-1400 and lost 35lbs in less than 8 months. i didnt do it the healthy way though i want to do it right this time:) So then maybe I should add a few hundred for breastfeeding as well.

Thanks, any other advice from others would be great!

those numbers are more guidlines then the actual rule...like you said quite frankly there very confusing as well. A lot of people think that BMR is what they should be eating in a day which is totally false as well,. Adjusting your calorie intake while lose weight in on itself while the exercise will just get you there faster. If you find yourself a little sluggish and tired then adjust your intake higher. People get to focused on the metrics and need to just stick to the basics.

BMR means basal metabolic rate. This is the amount they would feed you if you were in a coma just to give your body enough energy for your organs to function. It doesn't make sense to eat less than that, does it? If you do not have a lot of weight to lose, do not eat less than that. I would figure TDEE -15% and add 30 minutes of walking every day If you are busy and have a hard time fitting that in, march in place while you cook dinner or fold clothes or watch t.v.

Thanks, my question is answered. I'll cut around 10-15% of my TDEE and eat that amount. If I need to adjust from there I will:)
