birthday weekend..

I just know I'm going to be way over calories this weekend..it's my 21st on Sunday and there's going to be lots of drinking and eating yummy food both Saturday and Sunday. I was super excited for this a few weeks ago but now that it's here I'm worried that I'm going to gain a tonne (i just started maintenance a week ago and since I only lost about15lbs, I feel like it wouldn't take much for me to gain it back). I can't stop stressing about it now...it's kinda ruining my birthday for me. Is it okay to allow myself to go overboard for a whole weekend? Because I have plans to eat things like KfC, pasta, cake, ice cream and like I said..alcohol. Is this too much?? And should I count calories still, or will just depress me?
Thanks
Thanks

Dance around and celebrate. It will help burn off the extra calories. Enjoy your 2 days. Happy birthday.0

Don't count calories! Go celebrate!!!!
Just for a comparison - I spent 3 days in Mexico back in September eating and drinking in excess. Like dessert with every meal excess. Put on 4 pounds. Went back to counting calories the day I got home. Only took one week to drop the weight (without doing anything out of the ordinary). It was worth letting lose and enjoying myself.

This is why we keep coming back to MFP. 2 days of eating excessive amounts and drinking excessive amounts leads us back to the way we were before we lost whatever weight we lost. Why do we have to celebrate with excessive amounts of food? Can we not control ourselves? We can still eat but why is it when we celebrate we overeat? Just watchesd a report on TV. indicating that we are headed for 50% of the worlds population to obesity. That scares me. I am far, far from perfect, been down this road many times, searching for the answer. I am now happy with the weight I have achieved. I have no desire to go back. I will attempt to do all of my celebrations in moderation. Good luck to all.0

@tremroy, your comments resonate with me. On the other hand, food and drink are an integral part of celebrations in cultures all over the world. I don't think it is a matter of controlling ourselves as much as cultural conditioning, in many cases. Splurging can be fun, but it's easier to achieve moderation -- the "M" word of 40/50-somethings-- if what is special or out of the ordinary is the quality, not the quantity. It took me many decades, but eventually, I did learn to eat less but actually to enjoy it more (and sometimes that means just passing on stuff that is ordinary, saving my kcal for uncommonly good stuff). Cheers!0

I see nothing wrong with drinking or eating. However 2 days of celebrating excessively can lead us back to the dark side. If we have been here before then we could come back. Addicts sometimes fall off the wagon.0
