Back strengthening exercises

Looking for some advice. My workout is all cardio at the moment (swimming) but I've been suffering with lower back pain. My doctor's checked it all out and told me to find some exercises to strengthen my lower back, but I don't have a clue. Can anyone suggest any, or point me in the direction of some? I currently have an abdominal health issue (under investigation, waiting for exploratory surgery) and that's quite a pain, so I'd need to take that into consideration. Any help, please?

Well, I found this while googling for physical therapy back exercises. I'm not sure how they would affect your abdominal issue. Good luck!0

Yoga. Great for strengthen the back and core. You need strong core muscles to help support the back.0

and may I say "up yours" to your MD - this is a primary care issue and your physician should help you find exercises or, more practically, find resources to help make sure you're doing good movements. mein gott.
see if someone in your MD office can help you find a resource and maybe even a PT consult for this, particularly if there's an abdominal issue0 -

Yes, find a physical therapist with a good reputation, and please be careful of back surgery! I have lots of friends who have had back surgery, some leading to loss of bodily function or even more pain than before, and totally regretted it.
