So while I'm really happy about getting healthier I'm worried that once I drop the weight I need that I'm going to have all this loose skin on my body. How can I prevent that from happening??

You're still plenty young where it shouldn't be a problem, but its pretty much genetics. When setting out to lose 44 pounds, I would recommend lifting weights ASAP. This will not only help you retain muscle mass, it will help fill in any area where loose skin would normally appear.
  • i am doing strengthening exercises as well. i lost about 30lbs in 12 months after starting my lna job and i didnt notice any loose skin so im hoping thats indicative of what will happen.

It's genetics. My advice would be to lose the weight slowly and not at 2 pounds a week though, to give your skin more chance to tighten.
  • thats good then because myfitnesspal plan is 1.5 pounds per week

Genetics, age, rate of loss -nobody can forecast it

I've lost around that, have years on you, have trained and weight lifted and I don't have any yet...although the glimmer of some near my c-section scars - it will go given time

You'll probably have some loose skin. I lost about 65lbs in my teens. Since I was young, my skin recovered pretty well. Heavy lifting has really helped mask any remaining loose skin. Believe me though...I have seen enough naked women in the locker room to know that pretty much everyone has loose skin, stretch marks, cellulite...even the people who look perfect in clothes. Just get some Spanx.

Honestly if you do get any, it will just take time and patience. Some of it will go away, maybe all of it. You won't be able to fill that whole area with muscle, muscle is more densely packed than fat, it would take a lot. It's also near impossible to gain muscle on a deficit. But you should be lifting to preserve any lean body mass you have. Drink lots of water. 40lbs isnt too bad, but it really comes down to genetics and how much you have to lose and your age.

Healthy with loose skin is much better than unhealthy with a whole bunch of fat.

core excercises seem to help me, nothing extreme just some. Also time. I was 210 this time last year, regained 20 plus pounds and am now back down to 210 and with much less lose skin this time. im assuming combination of core strengthening and time for skin to rebound

One of my girlfriends lost 121 lbs and the doctors said there was nothing to prevent the excess skin. Surgically removing the excess skin is the most efficient way. Loose skin removal is aesthetics; don't you want to keep everything god gave you?
