Workout Programs - One Vs Hybrids?

I've been wondering whether I should pick a single DVD program and stick to it, or whether I can do some sort of a hybrid that will keep me interested and challenged the entire time. I know that there are a lot of people who are fans of Beach Body's programs, other who adore Jillian Michaels. I personally am somewhere in between those two.

I've wanted to do Insanity, but through the work week I simply cannot get myself to spend a full hour after work. It's sometimes just a little too much. And I wanted to go for Body Revolution as it is the only video program that has managed to keep me interested for the full 90 days of it. But after having done it once it's no longer all that interesting. I'm also wondering about P90x3, though I don't know if it will bring me any success.

I'm currently leaning towards some sort of a Hybrid. I intend on rowing in the mornings, and doing a 30-min video workout after I get home from work - Body Revolution or P90x3. On weekends the plan is to do Insanity along with eventually some other cardio in the form of a stationary bike or some more rowing.

But I've been wondering - does it really matter to stick to one program or it is okay to switch them around? I know that some of those programs have their separate videos focusing on different groups of muscles (most often at least), but also those DVDs are mostly cardio, so I don't see a problem with switching them around. Then again I might be highly wrong. So my question is to those who are more familiar with workout routines - what should I do? Stick to a single program, do an official Hybrid or make my own Hybrid? Is the burn the most important or working out the right group of muscles on the correct days?

I'm no professional, but from my experience I just can't stick to doing the exact same workouts week after week! It bores me, I find I don't put as much effort as I could in, and I get fed up. So this is why I would chose making my own mix of the DVDs you have available. As long as you don't work the same muscle group day after day, you take rest days and don't ignore your warm up and cool down you should be fine mixing it up. You could make up a very general workout plan for yourself. For example Monday:Legs, Tuesday:Arms, Wednesday:Core, Thursday:Legs, Friday:Total Body, Saturday:Flexibility, Sunday:Rest. See what I mean by general? You can pick the DVD segment that goes with the day from whatever DVD you feel in the mood to do, but you're still following a scheduled workout plan so you can keep on top of things and make sure you're working out your whole body.

But it really depends on what suits you. Some people would hate to mix up different workout DVD's and prefer to follow just 1 at a time. Where as I can't stand to keep doing the same routines over and over so I would have to mix them up. By the sounds of it, we have the same preference and mixing up the DVD's would suit you better and keep you more motivated.

Also since you only have about 30 minutes to workout in the evenings, Fitnessblender's 5 day workout challenge for busy people might interest you. I finish it today and I have to say I love it! The workouts are only 30 minutes long, there's a different one for every day, and they are in no way repetitive or boring! A warm up and cool down is included in the 30 mins too! If a workout plan can keep me interested it can keep anyone interested! If you enjoy it they have a 4 and 8 week workout plan for busy people too, with the same set up. The 5 day plan is free on fitnessblender.com but you do have to purchase the 4 and 8 week one, but they're not expensive at all.

I do have Fitness Blender's program for busy people, though I never got to do it fully. But I am considering adding it to the loop of things, see how it all goes.

As for not liking DVD workouts... well, to each their own. I don't have any good gyms around my place. And considering how busy and crazy things are at work I cannot spent over an hour driving from and to the gyms that I like. Don't have the nerves, don't have the patience and in the end I'll just give up. And after all the idea is just the opposite - to stick to something that I can keep on doing.
