Running Shoes Question

I'm a relatively new running, just started in August. On the advice of a lot of people I got fit for running shoes. They made all the difference in the world. No back pain, leg pain, absolutely perfect to run in. The running store I bought them from had them on clearance since they were last year's model.

Since I'm a bit um frugal, I'm wondering if I should go ahead buy an extra pair or two now. I only have about 180 miles on this pair, so they will be good for awhile. I can't imagine there are huge advances from year to year. And I can buy 2 pairs for price of the current model.

Is it worth sticking to what works or do running shoes change a lot?

I would buy them. It also helps to wait until the next model comes out and they have your current model on sale. Sounds like that is what you are fortunately enough to experience. Good luck.

I can't imagine running shoes are like Iphones, where the newer model is always a big improvement. If the type you have now are perfect for you, I'd say it would be fine to stock up. Especially since running shoes are so expensive.

YES--If they work and feel great, no injuries or nagging pains--buy the "older" models and save your$$$. I just got a great deal at 6pm.com on last year's discontinued model and less popular color of the brand I like. I got normally $120 shoes for $48.

I would buy the additional pair to have on hand. Also, now that you know the kind you like check out zappos dot com and see what they have. I have often purchased last years model and appreciated the discount.

Yes! I did the same thing. I bought two extra pairs and will continue buying them if I see them on sale. They last me for about six months so good to have some spares.

yep, buy em when on sale. I get 350-450 km out of a pair, so so about 4-6 months. i can go further on them but my legs quickly tell me when to change em out. The "old" ones are still great for yard work or wearing around daily use, just not for running. Kinda kills me to take a pair of shoes that still look brand new and turf em but it really does make a difference.

Also i try to rotate them through so you arent making the jump from an old set to a new set... start wearing them alternatively at half way through their expected life, when one wears out replace that set. For me this seems to balance out, but ive heard others prefer the from scratch every time.

    1) Research has shown that runners who actively rotate shoes are about 33% less likely to become injured. It takes shoes about 24-48 hours to fully "bounce back" to their pre-run cushion
    2) Running shoes change about once per year, and sometimes a model is completely eliminated. Running shoes pick the runner - when your shoe has found you, stock up.
    3) Good on you for getting fitted and purchasing there. Once you do you part as a "good citizen" by supporting your store, a smart move is scouring sites like runningwarehouse, 6pm, Amazon, and Zappos for rock bottom prices.
