Ladies - Workout clothes?

I have recently joined a gym and I am currently working out in old trackies and oversized t-shirts, but feeling very 'muggy' whilst wearing those. However the clothing I seem to like (e.g. via Next or Sweaty Betty) is extortionately priced (e.g. £50 for a top!!), which I am reluctant to spend when I hope to be going down clothing sizes over the months.

Just an open question to see what sorts of things you all wear to workout?

Which is your retailer of choice for affordable workout gear? :)

Whatever I can find that's on sale/inexpensive. This is a work in progress. When I get where I want to be, then I may splurge a bit on a couple of nice workout tops/pants.

I like the Danskin brand sold at Walmart. It's cheap but holds up well. Love Nike and Underarmour too but can't afford them except from the thrift store!

When I was plus size I ordered from Woman Within. Now that I am in regular sizes Shopko yoga capri's $15.00. Shopko cotton v-neck t-shirts $6.00. I do have to wear very supportive sports bras. I buy on line Champion $35.00.

Think of it as an investment in your future body. It will pay off in the long run. As long as you put it to good use and workout :) Even if you lose weight like crazy your outfit probably wont be to big for you right away. Plus if you buy good gear you will be more comfortable while working out. Certain materials will help you feel less sweaty and such.

I'm a really big fan of Tek Gear's racerback tanks for cardio. They have a shelf bra already, so when you wear a basic sports bra underneath you're pretty well supported no matter what you do. Plus, they're pretty cute.

Any brand of yoga capris is great for a bottom. I can't stand working out in full-length pants because I just heat up too fast.
  • You don't have to buy Lorna Jane or expensive brands to have good workout clothes.
I bought a couple of cheap workout shirts/leggings from Target/K-mart and they've still lasted me.
HOWEVER i strongly advise you to buy a good sports-bra even if you spend a bit more than you'd like (trust me on this)

I just rejoined mfp and needed some more exercise clothes and trainers. I went on sports direct spent £50 and I worked out I saved £146 and I got new running shoes (American pros) and I got two pairs of thermal running shorts, a sports bra, thermal top and jacket aswell as just a sports vest and treated myself to a crop top for when I've gotten down to my weight goal :) all the items I bought had big names they just had 70% off or more :)

I haven't bought new clothes for awhile. I wear inexpensive yoga pants (Danskin brand I think) or knit shorts and a normal t-shirt or tank top to exercise in. I did spend some money on new shoes though.

Work out clothes are getting cheaper, especially when it's in sale. Generally, I like the dry wick stuff so I don't feel so sticky and sweaty. But, invest in a good sports bar and shoes (especially if you run a lot).

I buy my workout clothes at GAP because I have their VISA and I get rewards for using it at other retailers. I just spent $60 in GAP rewards on new workout clothes -- sports bra, tank, yoga pants, and sweatshirt. I got a nice ensemble on summer clearance (leggings and bra-tank) for under $30. GAP has superior quality, but not super expensive, but I've gotten decent stuff at Target and Wal-mart (although I hate buying from them because they're evil). My biggest expense is the shoes -- I get at least two pair -- one for walking outside and one for the gym. There's a New Balance outlet near my house, but they're still expensive. Don't cheap out on shoes because you can hurt yourself wearing bad shoes.

I get all my workout clothes at Victoria's Secret. I love their yoga pants and their tanks and bralettes.

Provided that you don't need any specialist gear, just type 'gym wear' into ebay.

I've gotten leggings, tanks, shorts, sports crops etc for less than $10 AUD per item.

Old Navy! great stuff, really holds up and keeps me comfortable. I sweat a lot, so a loose tshirt makes me really uncomfortable when I'm working out.

Well Victoria's Secret isn't exactly cheap, but shopping during their semi-annual sale is a great idea! I used to work there, so that's where I got all of my workout clothes.

I'm a lulu girl myself. I have pieces over three years old that are still in perfect shape - while I spend more up front I wind up saving because I'm not replacing it all the time

    I wear shorts & a t-shirt that probably came from a thrift store, I really don't remember.
The shirt alternates days with a tech fabric (wicking) shirt I bought at the VA for something like $10.
I'd haunt the thrift stores, esp. while actively changing sizes.
As long as it covers me & doesn't get in the way, it's OK. (Oh, and it can't be pink.)
When I can find the fabric, I want to make a pair of knee-length bike shorts. Have to adjust the pattern, though, 'cause I made it when I was a little larger.

This. I have 4 Danskin pants and been wearing each once a week for more than a year and they still look new. They look great and are cheap. They also had a sale at Walmart getting rid of their summer clothes and I got sleeveless shirts for $5 each, they were pretty cute.

I bought some work out clothes from Primark, they are ok. Great price, but the quality isn't that great. I like some of the stuff H&M sells, good quality for a decent price.
  • I go through the sale bins at Under Armour. It can be a bit pricey, but it will last FOREVER! You can usually find good deals online.

Have workout gear from aldi and Lidl and from sale rails at sports stores. Will always buy goid sports bras as being a dd cup need the support and find Debenhams often have offers. If you know your size amazon is another place to look for offers. Tk maxx again does great prices on Nike or other moisture wicking brands.

I have some Avia full length leggings I bought at Walmart - I hate them, they have a mesh section on the legs that is totally scratchy and irritating. So I don't wear them, that was $15 a pair down the drain.

But I also have 4 pair of Danskin Now capri leggings that I also bought at Walmart that are great, were $12.95 a pair.

I have seen full length Danskin leggings there too but honestly it's not cold enough to really need them here yet now that I'm running on the treadmill indoors (when i bought the Avia ones, I was still running outside)

And for shirts I wear Russel Athletics 360 Dri performance fit tee shirts from the Men's department, also at Walmart.

I don't give a fig about how I look, I just want to be as comfortable as I can be in my sweaty glory.
