Good idea if you have good coaches who teach strict form and understand individual capacity, really bad idea if you don't.

This is what I hate about Cross Fit. How does anyone know if a coach is good or bad? Especially a beginner?

I don't think that's unique to crossfit though. I've seen the trainers at my gym having people do some really stupid things that could easily lead to injury. It's probably inherently riskier with crossfit because of how WODs are designed, but any sport/workout can cause injury if done incorrectly.

But then you pair that with a "must out rep everyone else" indoctrination system, and things can be dangerous for the uninitiated.

I'm coming around personally, I'm starting to feel that if someone is already an experienced lift, CF can be a good addition to their already existing training.

Definitely easier if you have some experience and know (and are confident enough) to say "I'm not doing that" or "I need to gear down or I'm going to hurt myself."

Our coaches encourage this and are more focused on technique and preventing injury than anything else. They are smart enough to know that if you do that, the intensity will follow.

    That' excellent.

The difficulty of ego vs. "I'm not doing that" is a trial in and of itself, I couldn't imagine how tough it could be when you're in a group, and they all seem to be doing more weight than you.

drink the kool-aid............duh.......lol I was thinking something with steroids or something....I really don't care how much the scale moves, I care about getting healthy, and my clothes fitting better, if I turn everything I have into muscle...I'd be one buff mamma, so some weigh loss would be great...but I just want to be strong enough to play with my kids and grandkids...I am active with them now, but im afraid of getting hurt...my oldest boy is 17 and loves to play basketball...and always wants me to play...but I am literally afraid he will accidently knock me down and I will break something.....thanks for all the advice and opinions....they mean a lot

Nothing to worry about, if it is a good crossfit gym they will accomidate you just fine. As far as weight loss, you can not out workout a poor diet. "Eat to perform" is a crossfit motto. You have to eat correctly or you may not loose much weight. You can not eat too little and not too much. Crossfit can incears your appetite because of the workouts. You will get in shape and stronger but tats for sure. Good luck!!

+1. I think it's good start. If you like it, you'll have to commit to more than 10 classes though.
