Hi
Just looking for advice really....
I'm upping my exercise and was wondering if I would benefit from a hrm. Thought I would ask people's views before I go and spend money.
I was looking at the polar ft7...
What are people's views and what can you recommend.
My excecise regime looks like this :
Running
Spinning
Skipping
Heavy weights
So ideally something the would allow me to track my calories burnt and hr when doing all
Of these....
Thanks in advance.

I have used a Garmin heart rate monitor for awhile and love it. I used to have a polar without gps ability and love being able to map out my rides/runs after the fact. I can also download other peoples courses they submitted and go 'race' against their times. They call it Segments. I currently use the Garmin 910XT that supports swimming as well. however heart rate does not work in the pool currently due to ANT+ not transmitting in the water very well.
I would recommend getting one if you have the money for it. Not necessary but very nice addition. It also makes it very nice when comparing workouts from months ago to gauge progress.0 -
I love my polar FT4. It really helps me better estimate my calorie burn so I can adjust my intake if necessary0

Never used one. Never needed one. I guess that depends on your own motivation and need to control. If it helps to control your heart rate to motivate you then sure, great, get one. If not... I don't really see what difference it would make?0

I love my HRM....I still use mine even after my fiance got me the Fitbit Flex for my birthday past September The HRM usually reads a lot lower calorie burn, so I was discouraged at first....but I learned to adjust.....even though I rarely "eat back" my workout calories.....I just can't justify "eating back 600+ calories.....after an hour or more at the gym....lol....and I work out at night.....so to gnosh down that many calories after 8 p.m......and I usually goto bed by 11 or 12 midnight......no bueno for the digestion0

I can't decide. I mean I lost 75 pounds without one but sometimes I just want one as something that is like hey, have you exercised today, get that burn going! I don't know. I dislike the price of them right now.0

Nothing will track your calories while lifting weights.
Whether or not you "should" get a heart rate monitor depends on how much you like data. It will be another data point, likely more accurate than any other if you are eating back all of your exercise calories.0
