I'm not worried about gaining weight, since that's my goal, but I've read articles that alcohol actually slows down protein synthesis and thus, interferes with muscle growth. But I guess that's only if you're binge drinking?0

Having a beer a day and binge drinking are two different things. Having a beer a day is fine. Binge drinking everyday is not and will most likely affect your progress in several ways that would make protein synthesis and muscle growth a moot point.
