Body fat caliper help?

I've recently ordered an Accu-Measure body fat caliper, and I'm finding it a bit difficult to get the hang of. I've tried watching youtube videos, but all of the videos feature people that have Lean or Ideal body fat. I'm overweight and I'm not exactly sure where to pinch. I know it's above the hipbone, but how much should you pinch if you actually have more than the ideal amount of fat there. Any advice would be appreciated =/

You grasp the "entire" skin fold and pull away until the "sides" of the fold are vertical (I.e. There is a uniform thickness where you measure). It's not always readily apparent where that point is (part of the error factor for skin folds).

If you are just tracking a thickness, then 1 site can be helpful. However, to get a body fat % number, you need to measure multiple sites, including the back of the upper arm, which is anatomically impossible to do on yourself.
