Need nutrition advice

Good morning all my MFP friends. I have been on this site for almost 2 years now. I'm not going to lie to you, I've tracked for a few months then didn't as i'm sure some of you can relate to. I've tried several different types of eating styles to include paleo, vegan, high protein, low carb, low sugar, weight watchers etc. For the most part I eat clean (local vegi's, baked chicken, fish, pork loin etc.) and in the past went to the hospital to meet with a registered dietician which ultimately was a waste of time.

The problem is this, all thru the process I've eaten approximately what MFP has stated in terms of fat, protein, sodium etc., but have not lost the weight. I had a physical and all my blood work came back in the normal range. No thyroid issues, good cholesterol, borderline blood pressure which I am going back at the end of June to have rechecked. For the past 2 months I was running 4 miles on the treadmill 3 times a week and still didn't lose weight. My food tracking is currently set to private; however, if you think you may be able to assist send me a request and I will friend you to see if you can see something that i'm missing.

Thank you for the help and have a great day.

how many cals do you net per day?

have you set your macros yourself, or left them as MFP sets them?

Something is wrong. How much do you have to lose? How much exercise do you get? How much strength training do you do? How come you stop tracking? I have been doing this for 2 years and haven't missed a day. I lost about 70 pounds. If this is just about a diet, you probably will continue to fail.

Not sure what to say except log it, learn about healthy foods choices (forget the fads) and get out there and run some intervals. Do some body weight strength training and plan for your success.

@dsjohndrow i'm currently weighing in at 234 pounds and am 5'10. Need to get under 200 due to the borderline blood pressure issue. Not doing fad diets, trying different things based on what the Dr. told me and the advice of the nutritionist from the hospital. I have a desk job so my exercise throughout the day is minimal. I was at least walking 3 times a week prior to running. The reason for the not tracking is based on my job which sometimes takes me over the pond. Long hours and eat when you can type of position. I currently do not do any strength training but have downloaded the 5x5 stronglift program and will be starting that as soon as I am cleared by the Dr. to start weight lifting.

@tavistockToad MFP macros has me at roughly 2000 calories a day. I'm eating around 1600-1900 a day. I did not set them and left them as is based on the information I provided.

i would say make sure you track EVERYTHING for 6 weeks, sticking to your calorie goal, and then come back if you havent lost weight - if you dont track, you cant say for certain that you stick to your cals, its easy to over eat by 500 cals (its only an extra 150 cals per meal) and wipe out a deficit.

Agreed. Track EVERYTHING as honestly and as accurately as you possibly can. Every bite and every sip... weigh, measure, etc.

Also, make sure your fats/carbs/proteins are pretty well balanced. MFP tends to have them skewed heavily towards carbs, which isn't usually a problem, but it can be for people with carb (insulin) sensitivity.

I have the same issue with the blood pressure. I am 6' 1" and 208. I am supposed to be at 187 according to the doc. I worked with the doc and a nutritionist and honestly, had little results. I set my calories for the weight I want to be, and it runs about 1300-1400. At 1800-2000 calories I was gaining steadily.

I admit travel is hard. I do it from time to time as well. It's important to get a handle on what you can eat on the road. At home, you can take care of yourself. I try to find a hotel with a gym, or a place to run. I also try to get some healthy snacks. But you certainly can walk just about anywhere, including around the room with the TV on. Then you can do some simple body weight exercises there too.

Friend me and have a look at my diary. Maybe you'll find it helpful.

    You can do this!
