Protein supplement after surgery

Just out of the hospital after removal of a burst appendix with several complications and facing a long recovery. I lost a few more pounds while in the hospital (ice chips only for 4 days will have that effect!) and am currently at 150 lbs. I have put weight loss on hold and am eating at maintenance, approximately 1630 calories, until I am fully recovered.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced and good tasting (or tasteless) protein supplement? I can't seem to eat enough to reach the 1.8-2 grams/kg of body weight of protein recommended for recovery with diet alone.

I'd check with your doctor to make sure you are eating enough. I certainly wouldn't be counting calories after surgery with complications.....
But as for your question - I use Biochem 100% whey protein natural flavor every day. I mix into a green smoothie or with chocolate almond milk. 20g protein for 90calories with 0g sugar. It's free of hormones and other junk. Doesn't have a taste in my opinion, and mixes well. Helps me average 100+g a day.
Good luck on recovery!0 -
Thanks for the suggestion! I will check out the Biochem natural.
I am using the maintenance calories as a guide - my appetite is way off and this is helping me to ensure that I am getting at least 1600. (I actually went over one day!} I am older (58), female, and about as sedentary as you can be right now. It is rather depressing, as I was doing so well until this hit, losing about a pound a week, walking and doing bodyweight exercises, and actually seeing some muscle. Alas, the muscle has disappeared.0
