Losing weight to improve running

I currently weigh around 80kg, maybe a little less. I'm looking to knock a couple of minutes of my 5k running time which is currently about 25 minutes. I'm not fat but I think I could get myself down to 70kg quite easily and go from being a fairly normal build to a fairly 'cut' build.
When I imagine carrying a 10kg weight on my run then dropping it, I imagine it would make a huge difference, but I also like being a little bit stocky.
How much would this improve running times?

Estimates vary but one number I've seen bandied about is that a 10lb (4.54kg) weight loss (all other things being equal) translates into about 20 seconds faster over a mile (just over 1 minute off a 5km run)

The general consensus is about 2 seconds per mile for every pound lost. Generally speaking of course. It's just an estimate.0
