How much would/do you spend or what lengths do you go to to avoid overeating/bingeing

I used to binge...a lot. Particularly during the afternoon. I've learned that if I pre-plan my food diary for the day, and I force myself to stick to it, I don't binge. If I'm tempted, I drink a glass of water. I don't have the money to go to great lengths, but I do have the motivation to keep myself on track. You have to find what works for you. When I'm bored or in the mood for sweets, my go-to is always water. I know that water will help eliminate the cravings, and it's good for me.0

Hi ems212 that's great. I think preplanning is essential I think I theove I a routine. I find it really hard when we have guests and food is everywhere and people like you to eat more with them! IThis is encouraging to hear you have overcome bingeung. What do you do to lift your mood when you feel flat?0

This may be random but I also realised I'm wuite spoilt I like my day to be planned and have something to look forward to each day. This is quite essential! Body and mind need stimulation. And most people thrive on a bit of structure. You aren't spoilt just because you need something to do. I notice that myself, it's so much harder to stay away from temptations when I'm bored.

I say if it's working for you stay with it as long as you need it. If you are starting to feel guilty about it then look into an alternative. If you are a stay at home mom, maybe find a mother's group to meet up with on some days. You sound like you are from the UK, I don't know if there's an equivalent of Meetup but I've seen several mom's day out groups on my local meetup.

Make a list of all the different things you can do, and look forward to you in a day. It sounds like you want to be out of the house and doing stuff. I couldn't imagine staying in everyday, even if there were other people coming over to visit me. What else other than coffee would be interesting to you: library, walking, going to the park, going to a swimming pool, a museum visit, creating a scavenger hunt for you and your little one to go on. Also figuring out what you triggers are for binging would be extremely helpful. Creating a list of things you can do at home when you have urge to binge would also be helpful, for when you have sick days. Maybe something like keeping a journal or taking a bath.0

The coffee thing is great!! There are definetly worse things to distract you....I used to go binge shopping instead....not always a good idea ;O)0

Coffee does help for sure - but like other have said, I have to address what to do when at home... alone with a poorly little one... I was reading some scientific articles on binge eating and they say ou have to find other things you enjoy...0

How much would you spend on avoiding bingeing/overeating? It may seem an odd question, but my peak times for my eating are; in the morning or early afternoon. I find just being in the house is hard. So, I organise my morning so that I'm not in the house, and I actually go to cafe to work and order a huge creamy coffee. I sit and savour it, that's my time. Then in the afternoon I pick my little one up, and we go tot the library/park but we both look forward to a hot chocolate or coffee out. It is extravagant to go to the cafe twice in one day... I have felt guilty for it, but it covers my peak binge times, and I look forward to the treat but I don't have unlimited access to treats too. However, I felt guilty to do this today and we stayed in all afternoon... by 3pm I started on the bread...! So maybe I'm selfish and slightly mad.. but what do you all do to avoid bingeing/overeating?
I don't think it is bad to get out of the house to avoid eating but maybe it doesn't have to involve something you buy at a cafe if it is hurting your budget. Maybe bring a snack/drink from home with you to the park. Still a limited quantity and you are out of the house. If it is in your budget to go to a cafe twice a day and You enjoy it then I don't see why you feel guilty.
I plan meals and pre-log my whole day. I look at my food diary many times during the day. I log everything I eat. I do not eat from containers. I put food on a plate or dish. I usually eat slowly and drink a glass of water. I put food away in cabinets out of sight. I get out of the kitchen and keep busy with other activities. I drink water or chew gum until the feeling passes. I recognize that I get hungry at a certain time of day and plan a snack for that time of day. I put foods in the freezer so they are not immediately available. I either don't buy or just buy limited quantities of certain foods.

The most important thing, is that willpower has an exhaustion point and there are some people out there that can quit something cold turkey and be completely fine to the change, but other people constantly have to fight the urge- eventually leading them to binge. It's important to start with cutting out daily intakes of certain things in moderation, slowly taking them out, and slowly incorporating something new, best of luck!0

Very useful advice, thank you. I think cutting out the dark chocolate was a mistake- I love it, eat too much of it but don't bibge on it like I do bread and cereal. I brought some teacakes (bread with raisins) freshly baked for my husband and I just had the urge to eat them all- yet I don't enjoy them like I would when you are really enjoying a food- so it's safer for me to try not to go near these things. I Find if I don't cut down on anything I binge .... So I think I just love food!0 -

This was a really useful post thank you. I have to buy some foods for other memento of the family but it can be false economy as I will often eat them. I also try and eat slowly and usually with a long milky drink, sounds odd but makes it last. Pls forgive me if I'm wrong but you sound like you may have the tendency to binge? I really struggle, I just love food and have to go to such lengths to really face up to my issues.0
