Any favorite workouts before a long drive?

I have a 5 hour solo drive coming up and would like to get a full body workout in before I hit the road. Any suggestions?

I'm going to an aqua bootcamp workout tomorrow night before a long drive to PA on friday.

Whatever full-body workout you would normally do? I'm not trying to be snarky, I guess I just don't understand the question. Does the drive have something to do with what you want to do? With what you can or can't do?

Personally, I'd start with deadlifts, pull-ups, and bench press, but that's me.

You are doing all the driving solo? If so, it isn't such a great idea to do a new workout just before getting in the car.

On the other hand, you could make a plan for a workout to get your blood flowing at each stop. Run around the gas station, then continue with bodyweight exercises or whatever resistance bands or weights you are willing to put in the car.

Because you don't know how a new workout will affect you. Most likely, after the adrenal wears off you will be more tired than usual because not only were you using your muscles, but you had to concentrate more than usual because you don't have any muscle memory for it.

Perhaps you were missing the fact that I did say "new workout"?

No, I saw it. I do appreciate the condescension, though.

I would avoid any intense leg workout if you plan on sitting for 5 hours after doing it. I've noticed that if I do a hard lower body workout then sit in a car for an extended period of time I start to cramp up.

Anything that doesn't kill your legs....otherwise you may not be able to get up out of the seat after 5hrs. Safe travels.

I had the worst charley horse once while sitting in a cramped back seat of a small car. It was about 7 years ago when I was still really out of shape. All I wanted to do was stretch my leg out and it was stuck at a 90 degree angle unable to move anywhere. Worst pain I've ever felt. It was as if the muscle was being pulled right off the bone. hahaha

I've done solo 8 and 12 hour drives a number of times and my favorite is to scope out a location at the halfwayish point and do a run of anywhere from 2 to 6 miles depending on what shape I was in at the moment. I would imagine with the number of gyms that are part of franchises it might be possible to find a gym in the middle too. Breaks up the trip with nice endorphins.

And stretch arms, back and legs every time you get out of the car :)

Thanks everyone, I 'abused' my legs earlier this week with dead lifts (Monday) and cleans yesterday so I won't be tempted to do them today or tomorrow before I leave.

I have some time before I hit the road so will do some light cardio on the stair mill, a bit of yoga and probably hit my back.

I like the idea of doing some push ups during a pit stop, if I can find a place that isn't too nasty. I'm no germ-phobe but a gas station might be pushing it for me.
