I'm hearing mixed things about coffee. On the one hand, caffeine has a lot of antioxidants and wakes you up so you can work out harder, but I'm also hearing that it is bad for weight loss. Does anyone know if it is good, bad or neutral for weight loss?

    GOOD!!!

Have you tried making cold brewed coffee in the fridge overnight? It's gentler on the stomach. Don't give up! :D

I can't drink coffee before a work out because it will upset my stomach to the max. I mean, it upsets my stomach regardless. But that makes it worse. But I love coffee.

I was pretty indifferent to coffee until I got a French Press.

Coffee is life, coffee is love.

    *high five*

We sold our coffee pots (We had multiple) when I got my gold french press. Then we invested in a second, smaller serving french press.

All we do is French press. All day long. Every day.

    French press life.

Coffee is gross? Yeah, well, and honey is bee puke. Everybody needs a daily helping of gross. It prepares your immune system for teenagers. Also for voting.

Plus, coffee is an absolute requirement for losing weight. Because otherwise I wouldn't get out of bed. Don't burn many calories lying in bed hitting the snooze button.

I've actually started drinking more coffee because the supposed benefits out weight the the supposed risks.
That and I used to drink tea with sugar and milk, and I drink cofee completely black so it saves me a bum load of calories.

Depends on what you put into your coffee. I take it with a scoop of skimmed milk, and no sugar. Twice a day. Helps me survive :)

Why are cream and sugar bad, exactly?

I've never heard of coffee being bad for weight loss. I stay away from it because of health reasons, though once in a while, I have some :)

I seriously don't think it has interfered with my weight-loss -- although I drink it black.

This is purely anecdotal, but I had read an article suggesting that caffeine could limit DOMS after a hard workout if ingested both prior and after. I started having a large cup (12 oz) of black coffee first thing in the AM, about 45 mins prior to my workout, and another right after. I'm convinced it works, muscles seemed less sore since the first day I started.

Might all be in my head, but I like the taste of coffee *and* it's calorie-free, so why not?

I lose weight and drink about 4 coffees a day. I just add a splash of milk...I like to taste the coffee! I do like a skinny cappuccino as a treat.

Black coffee does not cause weight loss, it's an aid to weight loss. For me, it's an appetite suppressant in the morning when I need an energy boost but not necessarily hungry. Again, after a big dinner, when I'm tempted to go for seconds and instead brew a cup of coffee or espresso (black). So, it helps me with portion control at times.

However, here's my tip for daily coffee consumption: every time you pour yourself a cup, have a corresponding glass of water. Every Time. Coffee is extremely dehydrating if you aren't careful, especially if you're exercising frequently. Either sip on the glass of water while taking your coffee, or gulp it down in one swig before or after taking the coffee. Sparkling water works too. I love an espresso and lemon La Croix :D

Not something that I'm willing to give up. I've cut back to one (large) cup a day, gave up all sweeteners and add some whole milk.

I usually drink some water while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil.

Coffee is good. Coffee with half and half is very good. Too much coffee is not good, and what constitutes too much coffee depend on the person. I drink 2 cups in the morning but can't have caffeine later than mid afternoon because it causes sleep problems.

I have with milk and a bit of maple syrup can't take it black, isn't it funny coffee is one of those things that people love it or hate it. Obviously more love here. As for weight loss, I agree having a half cup before I go to the gym gets me going, as for weight loss not sure it helps, if you are like me and add extras...

As was already mentioned in this thread, coffee is not dehydrating. It's 99% water. The water hydrates you. Unless you're just sucking down the coffee grounds dry, it would be pretty much impossible to get dehydrated drinking coffee...

I have two things I say about coffee:

"A day without coffee is like sleep."
    "No coffee, no workee!"
