Hi to all....I am in need of losing weight..I am not healthy and not happy with the way that I look. One of my issues is that I am a single mom and have my son almost all of the time ( which I absolutly love) but it makes it harder to work out. I can not go walking at night as he can not walk as far as i can, we have done some when he takes his bike and i walk, but its hard...I want to be able to have these as either a workout, or if we can not get out i know that i have somethign that i can be doing...as right now i am doing some , but i know that it is not enough...
so that leads me to my question..I am looking for some "viedo": type of workouts that would be good...I am very much a beginnier and need to start off slow as i have back and knee problems, ( but i also want it to be something that would be beneficial as well)
I do have a "smart" phone..so i have acess to youtube...I have seen some of you saying that you get them on there....I guess i am just not sure as to where to start.and what is good. ( i know that can differ from person to person) but I have no clues....
Thank you for any and all sugesstions that you all may have.....

Not sure how old your son is... but I have a 6yr old and a 3yr old. I push the 3yr old in a stroller when i go out walking and when my 6yr old comes too... she rides her bike or I just go at a slower pace. Any kind of moving is better than none. When she complains... I remind her that mom is trying to get healthier so i can do more fun things with her (I never use the term losing weight or getting skinny with her). She then quits complaining and we some times talk about things that make us healthy. When she rides her bike she rides to the corner (or whenever I tell her to stop as she's too far ahead) and waits for me while drinking her water. I then let her know when it's time to get going again... usually before I get to her so I don't have to stop. It's a pain... but worth it. As for workout video's I use youtube alot. I like anything by Ellen Barrett (she even has some walking at home), leslie Sansone for walking at home, Cindy Whitmarsh is AWESOME for toning exercises that are not your "typical" exercises. Lets see... Ellen Barrett almost always has someone going at a slower pace or modifying for beginners. Cindy's exercises... I have been able to figure out how to modify for myself. Youtube is great because you can try before you buy kind of thing and I have many days when I just don't feel like doing anything so I can skip around until I find something that appeals to me on those day. Just type in the kind of workout you want or instructor you want. ie: ab workouts, cardio workouts, pilates, yoga, zumba... whatever. your local library is a good option for "borrowing" video's too. Have you tried the biggest loser workouts? Good luck!0

Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away the Pounds" and "Walk at Home" DVD series are great for beginners. You can start with a 1 mile (about 18 minutes). I'm currently doing the 5 mile (75 minutes). They are indoor walking programs that can also be considered low impact aerobics. You can check them out here: http://www.lesliesansonevideos.com/
Feel free to add me as a friend, if you like.0 -
I am a single / sole custodial parent (they are with me 100% of the time) / I also work full-time. My children are soon to be 8 & 5. I have been a single mom since they were 1 & 4. In the past year I have lost close to 50 lbs. We have a Y membership (they have a very reasonable sliding fee scale for those that qualify), they have child care on the premisis. I go to a bike path (the little one was in the bike trailer at first) my oldest rides 7 miles at a good pace and I now pull my younger one with a tag-a-long (attaches to my bike), we hike, play Wii and I have an entire library of Jillian Michaels CD's. YouTube is great. Some hand weights are super. Some things take a small investment (weights, bikes etc), but once you have them you are good to go. Establish a routine and put your nose to the grind! Swimming season is also upon us...treading water while supervising them is a great workout.0
