Why does the scale move the right direction after I DON'T workout?

I don't have much to lose and I notice that losing each ounce takes a while! The last two times I've noticed a weight loss, it has been the day after a Non-Workout day. That seems so counterintuitive to me. I don't exercise a ton. My goal is four hours a week and I usually do more than that. But when I take a break it seems that the next morning shows a loss on the scale. Anyone know why that might be? Or is it simply coincidence?

When you work out your muscles retains water to repair themselves. So you step on the scale and see the water weight. If you don't work out for a few days after it gives your body time to heal and the water is released, then you see a scale drop.

Weight fluctuates day to day no matter what. There are just way too many factors that go into your body to assume that a weight loss one day to the next was fat. Typically if you go a few days without working out though, you will lose the water weight you were retaining for muscle repair.

Why are you weighing yourself every day?

I'm not "officially" weighing myself every day but I've been feeling thinner so I weigh myself to see what the scale says. I'm so interested in the science behind water weight. I like to walk every day so I guess I'll keep doing it and see what happens! Thanks for the replies.

You may want to start officially weighing yourself. Pick a day, and weigh yourself first thing in the morning (so you don't have to account for the weight of the food and liquids you may have in your stomach.) then weigh yourself a week later on the same day of the week first thing in the morning. It's helpful if you weigh yourself naked or in the same outfit each week. (It's less tempting to blame your shoes that way) ;)
