For those of you who are going to do tris, 5Ks, or whatever it is you like to do, how many days a week do you train when you have an event in six months or so?

I think it will depend on you & what you're doing.
I'm training for a half marathon in Feb. I started out doing a mix of running/walking. Running 2-3 minutes then walking 1-2 minutes. I was doing this 5 days a week, with one day as a 'long' day. Now I'm running more, generally 3-4 miles at a time and 6 on my long day. (Still a ways to go!) And I've figured out that I need days off between runs, so I'm not running on back to back days. Which means Tue & Thur 3-4 miles, and Sunday is my long day. In time I'll increase to 4-5 on Tue & Thur and keep going up on Sunday.
I started by finding a training 'program' online and adjusted it to suit me. I still walk and/or get in other activity on off days. But I don't run. Only exception is sometimes I'll do short 30-60 second 'sprints' at faster speeds.0
