I'm not a runner so it's not an important thing for me, but in terms of cardio workouts I think it does make a good case for the need for rest days.

The articles don't give much information. They allude to studies without actually citing them. They say > 30 miles a week negates health benefits, and talks of serial marathoners, then give the reason as no rest for the body. But it's quite possible to run 10 miles a day for 3 days a week and have 4 rest days per week. I only know a handful of marathoners, but none of them run them back to back or don't take rest days. Even when training for a marathon they all have rest days.

And does one need to run 30 miles a week every week? Does other activity figure into the equation? Like most mainstream media coverage of scientific study, this is just a bunch of headlines that leave more questions than answers.
