Calories in the packaging - frozen or "raw"

Hello. So I buy frozen fish, shrimp and veggies. The packaging says XX calories for 100g. Is this 100g of frozen fish/veggies or should I weigh it once it is at room temperature?

Thank you

Good question. Frankly I just use the 'cooked' entries for those when possible, and weigh after it's cooked, because I don't know. Some frozen veggies packages will specify frozen or cooked though, but don't give the weight for cooked so it drives me a little nuts (especially as it's the 'steam in the bag' kind. Idiots).

I use frozen, raw, and dry weights now.

I weigh cooked (less messy, plus I freeze all my meat). The calorie difference, if there is any, will be minuscule. And if you're worried about that difference.... you're not working out hard enough.
  • Frozen or thawed, there can be a weight difference of 20%. That is not nothing, regardless of how much I work out.

Anyway, thank you for your answers! I will go with thawed, since it is what I have been doing.

There should not be a difference in weight between frozen and thawed unless your packaging has a buttload of water that drains out after it's been thawed. I've weighed individually wrapped chicken breasts (raw) both frozen and thawed, still in the bag they weigh the same. And then everything gets dropped in there.

I usually go with the weight when it's thawed.
