For MFP purposes would you guess active or lightly active?

    health-calc.com/diet/energy-expenditure-advanced

    or

    exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html

Average your week out to a single day.

Regardless of which activity level you choose, it's all an estimate. Adjust up or down based on weight loss results.

I am not entirely certain my brain can backwards engineer the information given by those calculators into the MFP categories. I think I may be too stupid to figure that out.

But thanks, calculators are handy I guess. Though the first one seems to think I need to eat 4,500 calories a day to maintain my weight. :/ Guessing that is operator error.

I have enough trouble trying to figure out how the MFP estimates compare to my actual results.

Or you've entered in the information incorrectly. Once you calculate a maintenance number then you can subtract 20% from that and set that as a custom goal.

Probably depends on the stock clerk!

If you prefer a non-calculator method: I'd set "lightly active" and see how you feel after a few weeks. If you are losing weight but feel tired and hungry a lot - then set it to "active" and see if you are still losing weight.

Yes, that is what I meant by "operator error" (me being the operator, that I likely entered info incorrectly).

So it sounds like you are basically suggesting using TDEE instead of the MFP presets. That makes sense, thanks for suggestion.

Wear a step counter at work. The FitBit Zip also tracks activity level.
