recently gained 6 lbs. Oh my I had to check myself out and figure this thing out. Why was I so hungry or was I hungry. I had a close uncle sick and died yesterday. I had adult children not coming home for the holidays, I just gotten over a sickness. Excuses, yes but I have always comforted myself with food and it is so hard feeling pain and not numbing myself with food. I am so happy eating and distract myself so well. Eating Mcdonald apple pie and icecream at 9 o'clock pm and it was so soothing until until. The scales told it all. Oh gosh more work to do, I am now focusing on my life and feeling pain and it feels awful but I know it is necessary to work thru stuff. Anyone relate, any body else hit a snag? I am already not feeling hungry, gosh it was emotional, didn't even realize it. Maintaining for couple of years, this is the hard part when stuff happens and we go back to our old ways, so easy to do. Got to do the work not to let this get out of hand.

Glad you got hold of it before bad habits became the norm. It's a stressful time of year. Reading this has helped me stay centered. This is my second time losing a large amount of weight. Have been at goal weight for nearly a year. When all else feels so out of control, the one thing I can control is doing the best I can for me. Thanks for the boost of motivation.0

I'd recommend staying away from anything sold at a fast food place, and also from ice cream! I have a little "secret" regarding ice cream though that you may be able to use. I put a frozen banana and some frozen strawberries in the food processor with a little milk (half cup or so) and a splash of vanilla and I process it 'til it's smooth and looks like soft serve. It is delicious, nutritious, and has far fewer calories than actual ice cream! Doesn't need sugar. You can use other fruits too; I consider the banana as the base (sweet, creamy texture) and other fruits as the flavor. Blueberries can make a funny texture because of the skins so just be aware of that.0

Perhaps you may want to consult with a 'Life Coach' of sorts to retrain your brain how to process "pain" in a different way - a healthier more positive way.
Life is hard, disappointments / pain / sadness will always be present in one form or the other in varying degrees - it can't be avoided & often times not within our control.
HOWEVER, how we individually CHOOSE to respond to them is 100% within our control. If you lack the skill to positively process negative emotions then there's nothing wrong in seeking help to learn new healthier coping skills rather than finding comfort in nutritiously poor foods.
Or at least take baby steps & try to comfort with healthier options? Instead of McDonalds apple pie maybe a fresh apple with PB? Instead of ice cream try greek yogurt with fresh fruit?
Best of luck to you!0 -
I can certainly relate. I have been maintaining for a little over a year now. It is so easy for me to turn to food for comfort. I have been doing it all of my life and trying to stay on the healthy path is very hard, harder than losing by far. As long as we stay focused we can do this. My problem is trying not to let the few pounds build up.0

But, the longer you keep up with the good habits the less and less often you return to the bad. Stay the course and keep with it. A few years down the road you'll see that your old habits are way in the past or at the very least, happen much more seldom. Good for you for taking control back right away! That is a success to celebrate.0
