cutting the coffee

I have finally realised my down fall.
How stupid can i be?! for the past 2 weeks i have been curbing my coffee, i usually have abourt 4 a day with a spoon of sugar. But supplemented it with flavored green teas and in the 2 weeks have lost 2.3lbs its not much but its a small achievement since i have been on a plateau for about 8 months.
I wanted to ask, did anyone else lose weight cutting their coffees and how much weight did it help you lose?

I think if you want to cut coffee that is great. I am doing the same thing sort of. I drink a couple in the morning before I get on the road to work. I have been drinking more tea as well. I think the main thing if you are happy with the results that is great. I think the sugar might have been the key to cutting out of the coffee to help you bust through the plateau. But anyway it helps is best.0

Maybe it's cutting the sugar calories that has had the positive effect on your weight. I don't think coffee itself affects weight loss one way or the other.0

not the coffee so much as what I associated with coffee - cookies! Now I don't drink coffee the cookie jar doesn't tempt and I am starting to lose that extra weight again.
- also, because I haven't been drinking coffee all day, I am more ready to sleep at night so it cuts out the late night snacking as well - double result.0 -
It wasn't the coffee, it was what you were putting in the coffee and of course weight loss isn't linear and it also could have been a myriad of confounders not considered.0
-
it's the sugar. The caffeine in coffee actually gives your metabolism a boost0
-
i will never give up coffee0
-
Haha fair point it could be the sugar i have a feeling the milk didnt help either.
So on the other hand, did cutting the sugar help? my sugar is usually within my daily goals so i think eaducing it by almost half has helped a lot!!
Im just so happy.0 -
Coffee cannot and will not make you fat. You didn't lose 2.3 lbs because you cut coffee (the sugar may have helped, but you don't know that for sure).
Just because you tried one thing and there was a positive change, doesn't mean the one thing you did caused the effect. That's like saying the number of pirates in the world has been decreasing, and the global average temperature is going up. Therefore, the fewer pirates there are, the hotter the world will be.
Makes sense, right?0 -

considering its the only thing i have changed that has helped me get out of this rut. i will assume its the sugar, like most people have said (very strange even though im in the daily goal) but for me, having 4 coffees gives me a little over 100 calories so reducing that as well has helped too.. i was just saying coffee was my down fall0 -
why would you cut coffee, Coffee is good for you?
by all means cut the sugar to save the calories, though 4 teaspoons of sugar is only 64 calories =/0 -
It wasn't the coffee that wasn't "stalling" your weight loss. You were "stalled" because you were consuming extra calories. These extra calories could have been the sugar you added to the coffee, but they could have been extra calories anywhere in your diet.
correlation=/= causation.0 -

Gotcha, I switched from tea to coffee for the same reason. Four teas with milk and two sugars made too much of a calorie dent a day compared to plain black coffees.0 -

Ah! i envy you, being able to have it black, i miss the caffeine fix in the mornings, but its something i hope to ride out (obviously on occasion i will have a costa or something when out for lunch, but very rare if i can help it)
Did you find switching helped you out quite a bit then?0 -
no- but I wasn't dumping loads of anything into my coffee- I drink it black- or with a splash of milk if it's crappy coffee.
-
so- nope.0 -
I refuse to cut my coffee with my flavored creamers. I sacrifice my calories with it, but it's like heaven for me.0

^^^ This right here.
I bet if you cut the sugar out you'll have the same results although I am confused how you "lost weight" by switching to flavored teas. Flavored IMO means that it's loaded with sugar and other stuff.

I used to have my coffee with lots of sugar and milk, and finally I cut back to just milk, and now I just make myself an Americano with nothing in it. The trick is not to buy extra crappy coffee or beans. Makes a world of difference. Blond to medium roasts are my favorite. Dark roasts just get too bitter for my liking.0

Coffee actually effects how your body produces insulin and your sensitivity to insulin. Which can really be a bad thing since a lot of people put sugar in their coffee. Now I love coffee as much as the next person BUT I only have it as an indulgence once in a while. If you quit drinking coffee you are very likely to go through withdrawals so.... methinks it can't be quite as good for you as everyone says. You hear "Carbs are bad, Sugar is bad" but what about high levels of caffein? Too much of a good thing isn't really a good thing. I'm not saying everyone should quit drinking coffee but I think at least limiting the amount is a good thing.0

I think the "withdrawls" depends on how sensitive the person is to caffeine. I love my coffee. I drink a few cups a day. I can also NOT drink coffee or switch to decaf and have zero side effects. I don't drink soda or any other caffeinated beverages so I'm not getting the caffeine high elsewhere.

Caffeine, or smash my head against the wall until I pass out?
I drink Tarazzu from Trader Joe's with a splash of creamer. I like my coffee mega strong so I have to cut it a little bit.

I just did the same but because I was concerned about triggering an old ulcer. In my case I did not sweeten it but the weight loss has started happening again. Can not say it was cutting the coffee but I will take slow steady weight gain over the coffee for a while. I think when one gets to counting well we let more calories go past without biting them.

It wasn't coffee for me that was the issue, it was the milk and caramel sauce mixed with it.0
