Hello from a fellow dieter!

I feel like I have been trying to lose these last five kilos (11 pounds) for ever... I stacked on some weight during my teens, which I then lost most of through adopting healthier eating habits (basically I stopped binge eating ungodly amounts of food). So now I am totally cool with food, (as normal as any other girl that is;)) but those last five kilos have just hung around, for nearly ten years now, like some horrible souvenir from my disordered youth.
I have tried different things though: Gym memberships, daily runs, tee totalling - but nothing has worked so far. To be honest I had never tried a serious 'diet' before because a) I am totally disorganised b) terrible at maths and avoid counting at all costs and c) was worried that resulting hunger + denial of chips, chocolate, brie, bread etc would just result in me cracking and eating tons of that stuff anyway and getting fatter than before.
Up until three days ago, I actually thought I had a pretty healthy diet. As a vegetarian I eat lots of pulses and fruit and veg and so on but I did have this habit of swamping my otherwise healthy lentil soup/risotto/pasta/vegetarian chilli/greek salad etc in huge glugs of olive oil and and fistfuls of parmesan. I kept telling myself that this was fine, because olive oil is nutritious... I found it harder to justify my habit of eating bags of kettle chips washed-down with beers... at least it was vegetarian?
Anyway, my boyfriend discovered the myfitnesspal iphone app last week and to be honest after having a play with it I was pretty shocked by just how many calories there was in half a cup of olive oil (gah!! nearly 1000!!) and in my diet in general. Now I am really looking forward to keeping track of my diet without adding things up or writing them down - and the software told me I should reach my goal weight in 7 weeks, so huzzah!!
It's been really cool reading the other introductions, l would really like to offer support and get any tips for a first-time calorie counter (who is a bit worried about "cracking"!)
Cheers.

Oh yeah, that EVOO will get ya every time! I've had to go out and buy a misto to put my olive oil in so I can spray it on instead of using entire tablespoonsful and that has really helped me nix out the massive amounts of cals I was adding on from it.
Welcome to the fun, you'll find lots of useful information here and lots of really nice support buddies!0
