Your Self Discipline Muscle

I'm sharing this from my job that was shared with me. It made me think so I thought it might do the same for a few others.

I have observed through the years that there is a correlation between physical exercise and performance. My hypothesis on this is not only that exercise develops our strength, stamina, self-esteem, and physical appearance, but, most importantly, it develops our self-discipline muscle.

The same discipline that it takes to get up in the morning and go to the gym or to put on tennis shoes and run after work, or to swim laps, play racquetball, or regularly attend an aerobic exercise class, is the same discipline that it takes to make an extra sales call, study an hour longer, ensure quality in the product you are making, and to have patience with that child or individual that you are parenting or managing.

So, how can you develop an exercise program to consistently develop your "self-discipline muscle?" The following tips might help you:
Find an activity that you enjoy. This will allow you to want to exercise rather than have to exercise.
• Set small goals. Seeing results is one of the key influences in continuing with any type of exercise program. Set a goal that you can achieve and then move beyond it by setting another goal.
• Find a buddy. It is often easier to stay committed to a workout routine when you are responsible for helping another person stick to the routine.
• Read about it. Pick up helpful magazines and books on your particular area of exercise and seek out and learn new techniques that will add interest to whatever it is you are doing.
• Be aware of the improvements. Take time to notice the improvements in your stamina, health, energy level and attitude; take a look at the growth in your sales chart or productivity rate and then feel good about it.
You can choose to go through life with a flabby, underdeveloped, ugly "self-discipline muscle" or show off on the beaches and in the business with a fit and trim "self-discipline muscle" that everyone will respect.
