I've made the decision to add a few more days of weight lifting to my workout life. Presently, I only weight lift with a trainer, so I'm still kind of a novice. As far as something that I can follow along on my iPhone and do, is Stronglifts 5X5 the way to go? Another? Simpler is better right now. Thanks!

SL 5x5 is fine, but why not have your trainer (you know, the guy you're paying) build you a program to go with what he/she has you doing already?

That way your efforts with your paid trainer are optimized.

In terms of programming, it doesn't get much simpler than starting strength or stronglifts, but you still have to know how to execute the lifts. I also agree with the suggestion of asking your trainer. I assume you're paying him/her for a reason? Why not maximize you money spent?

If your trainer is worth anything, he'll agree that SL5x5 is a good program to start with, and he'll coach you in doing the lifts properly with good form. And if he's really good, he'll spot your weaknesses and design the assistance work based on that.

If, on the other hand, he is like most trainers that I've seen or heard about, he'll have you sitting in a machine doing series of 10 reps and then dashing off to the next machine for more sets of 10. Probably with a serious warning about staying away from the free weights, because they will only get you injured.

Now, if he (or she, for that matter) is of the first kind, then cherish him and pay attention to what he tells you or shows you. If he's of the latter sort, tell him that it was fun, thank you and wish him luck with his next client.

    lol.

SL isnt the end all be all, and a decent trainer will give better programming.

    THE HORROR!!!!!!

but agreed - the trainer should know best. beginner programs are good cuz they're easy to implement, etc. There's a bunch of them. Trainer should know them and help you - you know, earn his/her moolah.

    Wrong.

SL is the only way to get strong. It's peer reviewed research.
