edited November 8 in Introduce Yourself
Hi everyone. I've been a member of MFP for about 2 years now but never really used it. I've been playing around with weight loss for about the same amount of time. My hope is that writing this intro makes it more real and will get me started.

As a teenager I was very active. I was a point guard for my basketball team, a striker for my football team as well as playing handball and volleyball. Wore a UK size 10, sometimes even an 8!! Weight about 56kg (I'm 5ft 4). Went to uni and the weight began to add on. Initially I was not too bothered, I was in boarding school and we ate very little so we all gained weight when we started eating decent amounts of food! Weighed about 63kg. I did run a few times to try and keep the weight down but I was never much of a runner. In my second year of university I went to Malaysia for a study abroad and I kid you not, ate Chinese (mostly sweet and sour pork with nasi goreng.. mmm) everyday. Came back to England weighing about 70kgs. Lost a few kgs upon return, averaging about 67kgs. Over the next two years I gained the weight back and was about 76kgs last year. I started working out a bit (mostly C25K, some 30 day shred but I hated it) and got back down to 72kgs but wasn't happy. Got onto a new course and that fell to the wayside so I went back up to 76kgs. Then exam time came (I failed a couple of exams and had retakes) and I ballooned to 83kg. I cut back on Soreen loaves and started averaging at about 82kg which is my current weight. I have engaged a personal trainer but the weight isn't budging. I've been seeing him for only 3 weeks though. This week I went back to work (I'm a casual event worker) and I couldn't fit into my uniform!! Bearing in mind the last time I wore it was in June, before my exam results came out. I cannot believe how big I've gotten. The truth is, I don't FEEL that big. Yeah my stomach isn't flat anymore and holding it in no longer makes it look so but still. But my clothes can't lie and I look terrible in pictures, to the point that I don't take any. Not that my social life is so exciting that I take pictures anyway but I recently had my one year anniversary with my other half and it was depressing not being able to take pictures with him to commemorate the day because I can't stand how I look in pictures.

So I've decided to really get serious in 2015. I'm currently pushing (or am.. the denial is strong) a UK size 16. My aim is to be a size 12 by the end of 2015. Weight wise I'd like to be about 63kgs but I'm aware muscle weighs more than fat so it's not something I'm too obsessed about. I'm planning on completing the C25K by June. I am aware that it's meant to be a 2 month programme but from my previous experience it's unlikely because I'm sure to repeat weeks. I'd like to start lifting but I'm honestly intimidated by all the men in the weight room. Really missing the women's only section of my old gym. (Btw if there is anyone starting their fitness journey who goes to PureGym Holloway, please get in touch. I'm looking for a gym buddy). With reference to diet, I have cut out most sugar as well as carbs since my BF doesn't eat carbs after reading Taubes' book (he swears by it.. quotes and harps on about it ALL THE TIME). I haven't lost any weight by doing it but hopefully combined with going to the gym I will begin to see results. I'm also planning on doing TurboFire. I did it for about a month and really enjoyed it, except Tone 30 which I found incredibly boring and ineffective. By the end of the month I went from barely managing 15 minutes of Fire 30 to completing Fire 55 without a break.

I'm really looking for motivation, others about the same age (or not) with similar goals. I'm going to be 25 in January and I don't want to keep going like this. Also looking to learn; I've never been good with calorie counting and with so many conflicting reports on whether or not it works, especially with a LCHF diet, I'm not sure if that is the best way for me. In the future I hope to be more active on here, coming with non scale victories, scale victories and before and after pics. I'd also like to connect with people planning on starting TurboFire to make me accountable and more likely to stick with it.

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! Looking forward to connecting and succeeding.

Well done, but I'd start in 2014 :-) You say you are not sure about calorie counting. So why not try it and see what happens? I was the same - "nothing worked" but what I discovered when I tracked accurately - bottom line was I was eating too much - and more than I thought. Step one is being honest with ourselves abut what we are putting in our mouths, and why. I'd say good luck, but there's no luck involved, it's more about being willing to learn and change.

I noticed that you were looking for anyone starting turbofire - and well I am! I am going to start on 29 December 2014 and just do a few workouts to get me started then start properly following the schedule on 5 January!! I'd love if you want to do it together for extra motivation?! Well add me as a friend if you do thanks

You can find local friends in the Team UK group: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/150-team-uk

Everybody's different, and it will take trial & error to find what works for you. What worked for me was learning to log everything I eat & drink accurately & honestly. Logging is simple, but it ain't easy. Logging works.
