log calories for workout - alternatives

At the moment I'm logging workouts that seem to work out well with the calories I'm burning based on experience. For example I'm using the 8km/h walking for certain strength trainings with cardio elements, something else for fast breast swimming, etc. The calculated calories just fit for me and as I'm interested in the estimated calorie expenditure and the workout length this is fine with me.

But I wonder if there's another way of doing this. I noticed I can also create own workouts. Does the calorie expenditure go down if my weight goes down, or does it always stay the same? Are there better ways?

So...you use whatever cardio exercise in the database that matches your numbers, not your actual exercise? It seems like it would be less confusing if you just logged what you actually did. If the numbers don't match, you can always adjust them, or add your own. For example, if I do 30 Day Shred, I log it as circuit training, because that is the closest thing in the database (and I do consider that workout circuit training.) If I do some interval run/walk on the treadmill with inclines--that I would have to add to the database and use the calorie count from the treadmill or a HRM if you have one. If you use the calories count from a machine, just make sure you always put in your age and weight before starting. And yes, your calorie expenditure will go down when your weight decreases.

Well yes, I am interested in the numbers and the duration. I think I have enough data now to know what to chose. Using this method I just add the time and don't need to calculate anything as the website does it for me. With swimming for example I noticed that this database highly overestimates the calories. So why should I log swimming if it's wrong anyway and walking uphill or something like that gives me roughly the right number, plus the right duration for my stats.

Though yes, I am getting annoyed with continuously figuring out what workout corresponds to which data base entry. That's why I'm looking for alternatives.
