New me: Shrimp, fish, veggies, yogurt, smoothies

Old me: Bread, pasta, bagels, candy, chocolate, cookies, anything sweet and full of carbs.

I still love the old stuff, but keep my intake to a minimum. With the holidays here, it's getting harder and harder to not inhale the cookies and cakes available everywhere!

Old me: Chocolate candies, pastries, cakes, sweets, bread, overeating/overconsumption

New me: Fruit, herbs and lettuce, various legumes, spices (for cooking), meat, eggs, cheese, lots of vegetables, eating just enough

To be honest, after changing my diet, I can't go a day without eating a fruit and lettuce salad or drinking a frozen fruit smoothie. It's ingrained in me now and I love it!! Benefits of course: it made me a better cook, I got a flatter, more refined tummy, a clearer mind, smoother skin, and most important (for me anyways), no more sugar spikes and crashes which means I'm not sleepy after eating anymore. Yayyy

Old me: Cookie dough, chocolate, fries, ICEE, microwaveable chicken tenders, Cheetos, Oreos, ice cream

New me: Butter biscuits, cookie dough, Oreos, black coffee, Cheetos, ice cream, pork

Cooking for myself has certainly made me appreciate meat and whole foods in general more. I would have never bought any fruit or veggie because I thought they looked interesting.

Old me- ate everything in large portions, never weighed or measured anything, ate too many cheese pretzels and yummy breads (recently moved to Germany)
New me- weighs and measures everything at home, cut back on the bread a bit but still make yummy foods

New me: sweet potatoes, eggs (all different ways), veggie dumplings from the Asian market with steamed baby bok choy, broccoli, salmon, dark chocolate near-daily & Snickers ice cream bars on road trips (270 cal for what seems like a ridiculous & rich sweet treat)

Old me: Starbucks mochas & lattes, McDoubles, Swiss cake rolls, chimichangas, alfredo pasta in restaurants, tons of shredded cheddar on everything cooked at home

I've also gone from baking or making a dessert nearly every day to baking something like banana bread once a month and freezing it to warm up for periodic treats. Still very satisfying!

Old me: Starving myself until afternoon, then large portions of food, or grazing on lots of candy, chocolate, chips all day, but afraid of fat; quantity before quality, nothing tastes enough, oscillating between hungry and stuffed, eating out triggering binges.

New me: Eating reasonably sized meals, love taste of fresh and homemade food, choose mostly full-fat, satisfied, but hungry before meals; enjoying small occasional treats more, feeling safer around any food.
