What does it mean when I am not in the red with calories? - I still have 25 left for the day. However, carbs, protein, and fats are all in the red?

    Ok, so look at your macro's...my guess is something you logged has incorrect information

    Fat = 9 cals per 1 gram
    Protien & Carbs = 4 cals per 1 gram

    Rounding leads to discrepancies. If you calculate your macros (4 cals per g of carbs and protein, 9 cals per g of fat) then you will see that it's likely at or above your calorie goal. I track calories from macros, although sometimes I'm lazy and just use the calorie number. But I also use all my own entries, which I've made so that the calorie count reflects the macronutrients via these calculations, so that it's off usually no more than 10 or so calories.

    Since carbs, fat and protein grams all get rounded to the nearest 1g, they won't necessarily multiply out exactly to the calorie total.

    Also, re: carbs, some food labels will list insoluble fibre as carbs but not include them in the calorie total (since your body doesn't digest it).

    Basically, as long as you're reasonably certain that all the foods you logged were accurate in their database entries, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

    Wow- yeah one of them is Way off. Now I looked at the rest and I am disturbed by how off these numbers are. I am a numbers person so, this discovery is freaking me out! Not for my weight but for my OCD LOL I never noticed these discrepancies!

    Laughs, think lots of us are. At least you found it early on.

    Often, too, sugar alcohols are counted among the total carbs but have no calories. Same for insoluble fiber.

    Fiber is quite often the culprit. Most companies add the fiber count to the carbs but do not add any calories for fiber. So a food with 2 fat, 2 protein, and 20 carbs, 10 of those carbs being fiber might claim 65 calories. That's 2 x 9 for the fat, 2 x 4 for the protein, and 10 x 4 for the non fiber carbs. They then add no calories for the 10 fiber carbs. That gets you 66 calories which they round down to 65. If you counted just the macros and did your own multiplying you'd get 106 calories. Almost double. How many calories does the food actually have? It's somewhere in the middle. It depends on the type of fiber.

    It really is sad that they make no effort to clean up the database. It's a mess.

    This is why it's good for everyone to verify entries. If you do it pushes the entry with the most verification to the top. If I am logging a pre packaged product, and the information is correct, I always verify it.
