Does anyone use a HRM for swimming?

I've never had a HRM and I only do swimming as exercise. MFP says I burn between 300-600 a session (depending on length), but I presume that's about 100 out. Does anyone use one for swimming? How much does it differ from MFP calculations? I've heard they're hard to use for swimming because they need to be tight/have skin friction to work?

I use a polar FT4, MFP's estimate are double what the polar says. I think it's men that do not wear a rash guard while swimming that have trouble with the strap staying close, as it stays perfectly snug in my bathing suit top while I'm swimming.
If you primarily swim you may want a swim watch instead of a HRM swim.com/swim-watches
It will detect your speed, pace, stroke and give you a lap count so they are way more helpful for seeing your swimming improvements. But yeah, any polar is going to give you a calorie estimate based on heart rate. (if you go for another HRM brand make sure it's waterproof)0
