I'm borderline underweight but skinny fat? I was 145lb last year but I lost weight from healthy eating (I wat 2000 calories or more). However, I don't exercise. I'm thinking of doing bodyweight exercises like squats etc and cardio.

Will I love some body fat? What if I become underweight... does it matter, most people say BMI is bs

You won't go to underweight if you eat at maintenance. You can start bodyweight but I'd suggest doing weight lifting (Stronglifts or Starting Strength).

BMI is a good guide, but it isn't the end of the story. As long as you eat as much as you burn, you won't lose weight, so your BMI will stay the same.

I have a hard time beleiving you could be skinny fat. You might not be as firm and toned as you'd like, but to be skinny fat you'd have to have a high BF%. At your height and weight that doesn't seem possible.

If they have a low LBM it's completely possible

no, it isn't. it is possible that they aren't perfectly muscularly toned, but the term "skinny fat" for someone who is perfectly normal is insulting. this needs to stop. the term is just a way to shame people, mostly women.

you are definitely not skinny fat op.

if a negative term is used to basically define people who don't lift heavy, mostly women, it's just insulting.

    And here we go again.

I've been away from genpop for months. Just popped in to see what was going on and this was one of the first threads I found. I see that there is nothing new under the sun.

Sure! Do bodyweight exercises. That'll totally get you where you want to be, contrary to all the advice you've been given every other time you've posted this same question.

The issue is not "weight" per se, but lean mass vs fat mass. I personally don't like the term "underweight" because it assumes that everyone has the same body structure.

At your height and weight it is very likely that you have a relatively low muscle mass. In the long term, trying to improve that via resistance training will lower your risk for osteopenia/osteoporosis and provide other health benefits.

Most of the time, just "gaining weight" on the scale (usually means gaining fat) is not helpful.
