I've lost 70lbs on my own

Seriously.

I am currently 134-135 depending on what the scale wants to give me that week. I did it all on my own. I only stumbled upon this site when I googled how to tone squishy.
Anyway, I see a lot of people "afraid" to eat, "afraid" of the holidays, "afraid" of having a good time.
and let me tell you something.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AFRAID.
You can eat what you want, you can eat the cake, the cookies at the holidays, you can go to restaurants and socialize with wine and good food. You don't have to restrict yourself.
In the last year of doing this, I never completely voided myself of things I love. I have done that in the past and always have failed. So I still ate the cheesecake, the pies, the chocolate. I still went with friends and had wine, and steak, and baked potatoes. I just limited myself.
Please don't be afraid of the holidays. They are a part of life, they are important to us as humans because socializing is just natural to us. Enjoy yourself over the next few weeks. Eat what you want. Drink what you want, just be mindful of moderation and limit yourself.
This is a forever thing. You can't do forever by restricting yourself.

This has probably been said before, but I just wanted to say it again. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday, whatever holiday that is you choose to celebrate.

    Congratulations on your loss!

"You can't do forever by restricting yourself" is a good quote.

Many people don't enjoy their lives while trying to lose weight which is why so many regress. They eat stuff they don't enjoy in the name of losing weight which defeats the purpose because they know they won't be able to sustain that eating pattern.

Do what you are doing for life. If you can't do it for life, you will fail.

Good job and many people in here will agree that in moderation most things are okay. But who says that you have to eat junk food to socialize and to have a good time? I have 9 weeks left to get my beach body for vacation time.........I will be sticking to my calorie goals and passing on the cheese cake, cookies, and candies........but trust me I will have an amazing time during the holidays. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy Festivus to the rest a yas!

    Great job.

I agree we have to learn to still "Live Free" and not over eat as a life style.

For some reason most people think this is a requirement. Not to say that food and socializing isn't pleasant, but it doesn't mean we HAVE to partake in order to enjoy the company of others. I eat for fuel. I eat if I'm hungry and quality food is available. I don't feel obligated to partake of food simply because it is in my vicinity. Getting rid of the "obligatory" mind set is very freeing.

Great post! Congrats on your weight loss- such an accomplishment. I'm on of those people that have tried everything under the sun for the "quick" win... usually involves cutting out something- carbs, fats, excessive calories. The most success I ever had was just moderation and occasional indulgence. It does boil down to awareness. They say the first three bites satisfy the craving so if I want the damn cheesecake- I'm taking three bites!

    Congratulations on your loss!

You should start a thread in the Success section, detailing how you did "moderation", where you struggled (as well as how you overcame obstacles) and especially how you managed the last ten or fifteen pounds, as that really seems to be a big hurdle for many. Lots of people enjoy reading about the way others succeeded. It's inspiring and sometimes helpful.

It must be wonderful heading into a new year with this accomplishment under your belt! You should be very proud! :)

Congratulations on your great loss!! I'm of the same mindset and don't cut out anything. I only cut down on portions. I've lost 143 lbs so far, but still have a ways to go with 97 lbs more.
