problem about discussion notifications

For some reason I still can't post in the help forum.

In any case, I have it notify me of discussions I participated in, only problem is, some of these threads have left me far behind and I'm still getting their notifications.

Is there a possible way to shut off notifications from a specific message thread? So that way I only have the notifications I want?
