Hello all, I have been working real hard on my transformation, and am excited that I am not too terribly far from my goal. I was wondering what ab exercises would be best? I have just been doing situps while holding a 25lb plate across my chest. Any one have anything else they like to do, or that works?

Thanks!

What results are you trying to achieve?

What does the rest of your strength training routine look like?

Just starting out, have a power rack now, just been doing bench, curls, situps and lots of cardio really. Not sure what all to do and on what days. As for results, mostly looking to lower my bf% a bit, get some decent muscles. I have lived in Tampa for 11 years, and it would be nice if I could finally spend one of them at the beach a bit, lol.

Have you looked into lifting programs?

Not really yet, I am hoping to get on a daily routine, just figuring out what it is still. Until then though, I just want to make sure I am still benefiting the most I can from what I have to work with.

I'm not sure what you mean get on a daily routine. I would highly suggest looking into programs to at least get an idea of the schedule you'd be looking at to begin with.

There are strength programs that do total body 3x a week while others are 4-5x a week with splits.

Looking into these will also give you an idea about progressions and such.

Also, doing/looking into compound movements does help core strength :)

    Congrats! When is the surgery?

    lol, kidding.

Weighted situps are fun. So are full body crunches, Reverse hypers. hanging leg raises. russian twists.

Here's a good one, take an 18# medicine ball, do a crunch and hold your abs while someone punches you. That's a fun one. I do that one a couple times a month. Couple hundred reps and you'll feel it.

Hold them straight out behind your head, like a cop is about to shoot you, and your hands are up.

Start by getting on a structured, pro-designed program, to get the best results. Popular programs here include NROL, Stronglifts, and Starting Strength.. or work with a good personal trainer. Pick a program and go with it. Avoid modifying it if possible.

and what you have is a single, solitary 25# plate? seems odd. that plate isn't part of a set? maybe with a barbell lying around?

Oh, no sorry, I have probably 160lbs in weights, but not enough to squat or dead lift really. I can do other things, like press, and use the smaller plates to do shoulder exercises and such. I am getting more weights soon so I can try out the SL5x5 program and such. I was just wondering if it was safe to do the situps with extra weight mostly, seems to give a decent burn, so I figured its probably a good way to build abs. I will figure the rest out soon.
