Inaccurate scale...yikes!

I have been weighing myself with this scale at school, and my original weight was 134. Trying to get down to 120 based off that. But since coming home about two weeks ago I have had the scale on the tile instead of a rug like I had at school. The last time I weighed myself at school I was around 126, like 126.8. Well...I just weighed myself for the first time since coming home and...135!!! Holy crap. It occurred to me that the difference might have something to do with the surface the scale was on, so I moved it to the carpet and tried again. 120.

This is scary. If the scale is more accurate on the tile, imagine what I weighed to begin with if the scale was weighing me as 15 pounds less when it was on the carpet!

  • That happened to me! I put it on a hardwood floor that wasn't too squeaky and I seem to be getting more stable results. Good luck!

Yes, the scale is more accurate on the tile. Always put the scale on a hard surface. There's some physics behind it..something to do with the normal force on the carpet versus on the hard floor. But I won't talk about things that I don't fully understand, so I'll leave it at that. The scale on the carpet will tell you your weight is much less than it is.

But it doesn't matter what you weighed to begin with anyway. That number is decreasing, and now you know where to accurately weigh yourself. :)
