I haven't wanted to do anything in about a week, except sleep and lay on the couch.... yesterday i got a fitbit for christmas and the plan today was to relax on the couch and work from home, i got a notification that i was about 1000 steps behind someone in a challenge so i decided to go for a walk and was able to beat her in the challenge

    Nice work.
  • Motivating! I have been thinking about getting one. My daughter has one and loves it. Perhaps it will give me that needed push..

Do you drive a lot, and it always counts steps the whole time? If you drive around the same amount most days and weeks, it's probably not worth bothering with making an activity for each time. Just raise your step goal a little to compensate and carry on watching your overall trends. Driving does take some energy, too, just not as much per 'jostle' as walking.

For Pete's sake, if you have to use an app to record driving, why not just use apps to count your steps?

I was given one of these things for Christmas and I'm try to decide if I should bother opening it or just sell it on eBay.

    It logs driving as walking?

Yes I've seen them, fabulous looking but just too much money which I can't justify
  • I love my Fitbit. ..I've inspired my mother in law, her boyfriend and now my bf to get one.
Mine was a gift but I'd buy it myself in a heartbeat.
I've broken one & lost another & the customer service was AWESOME about replacing. ..for free!
It makes you constantly more aware of your activity level. If you're competitive, the challenges are a great tool.
The Tory Burch bands look amazing, but I can almost buy a new Fitbit for the price! !! No thanks.
Check out getting a band on Etsy..there's a few places there that make more 'feminine' bands and accessories. I think I'm going to try one from there. They're reasonably priced around $25-35
    Good luck!
I hope you love it ad much as I love mine!!

I'm looking at the new charge HR fitbit- I heard that tracking heart rate shows how much healthier you are getting; if your resting heart rate decreases then you are getting healthier :-)

You should try it. Most people don't have an issue with it counting steps while driving. If yours does, the company will most likely offer you a warranty replacement if you insist. Or the store will take it back opened.

I've had them for 5 years, multiple devices, and never had an issue with it, but I'm not sure I'd even notice because I watch the overall trends, not the per-minute accuracy. I can see it being an issue if you have an hour+ commute daily and it's padding your step count by thousands. But Fitbit says when it can be a problem is if your roads are bumpy.

Exactly! So many new users overthink the accuracy. I've had a Fitbit Flex (+ a Jawbone UP—yay, data!) for about a year & a half. I get "steps" in the shower, but so what? I shower every single day.

I've lost the weight and kept it off for six months. So my Fitbit burn is my TDEE (total daily energy expenditure), which by definition is the number of calories at which your weight will stabilize. Yay, Fitbit!

    ^^ yup totally agree ☺

And thanks to the other poster who mentioned the etsy site, some fab accessories for the Fitbit ☺

I've worn a fitbit daily for nearly 2.5 years. It is one of the keys to my ability to maintain my goal weight and fitness level. I am reminded to keep moving and seeing the relationship between calorie intake and exercise has been very helpful.
