I could eat all day long, and do unless I get out of the house. So how do you cope when around loads of food (especially during holiday time)?

I have to distract myself with other things and keep the 'good for me' foods where I can see them. Instead of junk food on the counters, I have bananas, oranges, cans of No Sugar added fruits, etc.

Food will ALWAYS be around you. It's important that you learn to manage those temptations. Try to keep the healthier options at home and not buy the not-so-healthy ones. Make room in your calories for a little of the foods you love, so you don't dread doing this. If you hate it, you won't continue doing it.

Basically, I just don't make food my focus.

When I'm at a holiday event or a friends' house, I view it as I'm there to see them and socialize, not eat the food. That doesn't mean I won't indulge, but I watch my portions and spend the majority of the time talking with others, helping my mom make the dinner, etc.

Clearly it's working because while I didn't lose any weight this holiday season, I didn't gain either.

In my own house, I go to places like Bulk Barn to get my chocolate, nuts, whatever. That way I can purchase them in smaller portions. Another trick is simply to "package" your own stuff -- ie, break a part a chocolate bar into the four servings it is and place them each in baggies. Tell yourself you only get one baggie and then use your will power and stick to it.

If you're determined to hit your goals you'll find the majority of the time you're going to choose long lasting satisfaction of reaching your goals over the instant gratification of eating all the holiday treats in the house in one day.

Pre log your day and stick to it. I've been taking extra long walks to help with my overages + to get a break from family time :)

Make promises to yourself and keep them. Have one cookie not 3. Tell yourself you can have what you're wanting tomorrow when you have more calories to spend (and by tomorrow you might not even want it). Find other things to do.

For me, logging everything here on MFP has "solved" my lifelong issue with this. I make things fit in while thinking also of health (i.e., I'll have a cupcake, salad & some protein but not 4 cupcakes) and when they don't, I just do not eat them.

Maybe that sounds overly simple but for me it truly has boiled down to that.

Logging does the trick for me. Now that I know how many calories are in those 'little' indulgences, they aren't nearly so tempting. I know I'd rather save my calories for exactly what I want rather than whatever it is that shows up in the staff room.

Logging my day in advance has helped me a lot. I eat all kinds of things that I really like. I usually just drink water because I 'd rather get my calories from food. If I see that something will take me way over my calorie limit I either do not eat it, reduce the portion size so it fits the day better and/or start exercising more. Usually I do not eat it because I don't want to exercise for hours just to eat things like that anyway.

Sounds like getting out of the house is the first step...?

Doesnt bother me that much, just focus on what you need to do and why. My backup plan is that if I need to eat then I do, but I take the edge off by going to the gym. Other than the holiday period, then losing weight is more important to me at the moment/ O do find theres a lot gone uneaten that will go back in the cupboard, chocolate and stuff.
