Hi, im a PT from spain testing this app to see how usefull it is to help people accomplish their goals. By now i find it interesting for tracking daily meals... But the pre-recorded meals are usually not as accurate as i would like. Another thing i dislike is the weight loss predictions: this is a subject where you cannot use a thumb rule to say how much will take for anybody to loose a pound.
Anyway, i give it a thumbs up if its used with previous knowledge of nutrition.
Peace ✌

I can only speak for myself, but I find it easy to you and a great way to hold myself accountable. Not perfect, but definitely useful.

Err its a basic prediction not a guarantee. Thanks for your approval the millions who use it successfully can sleep easy.
  • Seems people is lil bit stressed... Maybe not sleeping enough?
I can post my opinion about it... Or i cant?
When someone who doesn't know nothing about nutrition is told about weight loss predictions its unfair. But hey, blame on me for posting knowledge and my opinion. You can keep your unpoliteness to you. Thanks.

Very touchy over this, are we? It's a learning tool. Most successful people don't know a lot about nutrition and fitness when they start out, but they learn. This site is great for learning. It may not be the best site for people who already know everything there is to know, though.

Pre-recorded meals? Are you just picking things out of the database and believing they're going to match what you eat?

If you don't like the weight loss prediction that pops up when you close your diary, just don't close it. It saves me from punching my monitor. :P

I would say many of us use the app because of the support we receive from others.

The pre-recorded meals are not as accurate as you would like because the food database is generated by users. There are some entries, like the USDA entries, which are pretty standard for foods, however other entries are based on the ingredients that the individual used and would not necessarily translate to how you would make the dish. In those cases, use the recipe creator for meals you prepare at home so you can calculate the calories and macros for your ingredients and preparation methods.

As far as the weight loss predictions, you are correct that no one can definitively say how much weight someone is going to lose, however it does say "if you ate like this every day" before providing the number. In that respect, it can be useful to you and your clients to show how just a slight change in calories can impact weight over a period of time. Look at the predictions for weight loss with just a mere 100 calorie difference in the day, and you've got a nice way to illustrate to them how people end up putting on weight over time without realizing it when that 100 calories is over their maintenance.

I like that MFP has the food database, but I have found that some items have different nutritional information saved in the database than what the box for the actual item says it has. To make that work I make my meals private instead of adding them to the sites database for everyone to use so that no one can change the information I put for the items.

I like that MFP gives a weight loss prediction. I have put myself under maintenance for a while now, but when I was not in maintenance I liked that the website gave me a number I could expect to be after about a month. I did not take the number as an exact. I took it as a roundabout number that I could expect if I do what I am supposed to. It was just an incentive for me. I know that everyone is different so I may not actually end up hitting whatever number they said I would in the amount of time they said I would reach it.

I think the site has good and bad points, but I like the site so I have kept on using it. There are other trainers on this site, you might end up in the same post as them or the same group as them if you explore the site more. Have fun looking around.
