What electronic / device is best for fitness motivation?

I'm starting to become serious about fitness and I'm looking for ideas. I am hoping to find some type of electronic that can tell me calories burned, or maybe something along those lines. Anything motivational is great.
Any ideas?

You can learn more about Fitbit activity trackers in the Fitbit Users group http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1290-fitbit-users or at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/fitbit-2

I'm looking into this also and am trying to research which ones are the best. Lots of people raving on about FitBit so am kind of swaying to that line, however hoping to get opinions on how they've found them.0

Don't see the point in overly expensive pedometers0 -
The point is a lot of people are motivated by data. What we monitor, we tend to improve. It's like how people who weigh themselves tend to manage their weight better.
A cheap pedometer can be motivating too but they're a pain in that they need reset each day, they don't store your data, show it graphically, put it online for friendly competitions, or send it to MFP to improve your TDEE estimate based on each day's actual activity.
$50-$100 is a pretty cheap fitness gadget, all things considered. Most spend more than that on a pair of shoes or a few months gym membership. Crossfit, Orange Theory and Bikram Yoga usually cost more than that for one month.0 -
I agree ..i have a Basis Peak monitor

It motivates me to get my steps and calorie burn for the day0 -
What motivates you?
Speed/distance numbers? Something GPS-based might be best
Strictly calories? A combination HRM/activity monitor could be a good option
Social interaction? Something like fitocracy, maybe?0 -
I'm had a fitbit flex for a while and it really liked it. It had charging issues so it just got a Jawbone up24 2 days ago. They fitbit was simple to use and understand and it did help motivate me to get up and move more. The app and website was simple to use as well.0

About 4 weeks ago my wife and i purchased up24s, so far it has been great. I like how you can see the progress of team members, it tracks your steps, calories burned, sleep patterns,0

MFP has a Jawbone UP Bracelet group: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/13420-jawbone-up-bracelet
Like Fitbit, UP shows your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) and syncs with MFP. The main differences are Fitbit also makes non-wristband models, and Fitbits can sync (via a dongle) with a computer. UP requires a compatible smartphone or tablet.0
