I've used MFP successfully in the past and now after slipping back into bad habits I've returned. But this time I'm not really sure where to begin my current weight is 18st 4 lbs
and I'm going on a family trip to Florida in August 2015 where I'd like to be a lot lighter. I was thinking somewhere between 16 and 15 stone. Previously I have easily decided a weekly target , logged food and got on with it, however this time I just can't decide whether to aim for 1 or 2 lbs a week. I've been logging calories but have been majorly over eating and I just wondered what everybody found more productive when they began? xxx

If you can't decide between 1lb and 2lb, just set it to 1lbs for now and continue the debate in your head while you're out walking, jogging, or running!
(Any forward progress is of course much better than the reverse!)
I would also set aside some time for introspection. Why did you slip back into "bad" habits? Were those "bad" habits actually better in some ways--tastier, easier, cheaper, or more filling? Can you find a way to incorporate some of that into your life change for better success?

What I have learned over the past 10 years is, be happy with any amount of weight loss! When I would set weight loss goals per month I would beat myself up if I didn't lose the right amount. Losing weight takes more patience then most have. There are many benefits. Lol!! I'm starting "over" yet again. I would like to lose 50-70lbs! Good luck to you.0

When I started I chose the most aggressive rate of loss MFP had, which was 2 lbs a week. Of course, that returned a calorie goal of 1200 which I found punishing. I tried going real easy with a half lb a week, but but I stalled out eating that much. I'm losing successfully now at 1 pound a week.
I don't try to eat according to any plan. I just eat what I always have eaten, but in amounts that fit within my calorie budget.0
