Weight gain making me crazy

Yesterday, I found out my childhood dog was put down and I was just devestated. I cried and cried and drank lots of water trying to not dehydrate myself. I didn't over eat by any means (under ate I would say) and had a dinner of chicken and rice. This morning I got my period (yes great timing) and I'm just feeling horrible. I step on the scale to see a number I have not ever seen in years (seriously since I gained the "freshman" 20) I literally have gained so much weight overnight and I can't come to understand why. Can anyone help ease my mind and I'm about to have a panic attack.

Don't panic! It's water retention. Stress, TOM, salty food, and just random fluctuations cause that. It'll go away in a few days.

I'm sorry about your dog. That's tough.

First off, I'm sorry about your dog. I remember when ours passed unexpectedly when I was 15 and it was terrible.

The combination of stress from dealing with the loss and TOM is what made you gain, and it's most likely all water. It should come back off within the week. Don't focus on it, focus on the good times you had with him/her and try to get back into a normal routine.

Same thing just happened to me. I didn;'t overeat during the holidays, just ate a lot of the wrong foods. I got on the scale and, somehow, magically gained 10 pounds in one week. I was so disgusted with myself. This morning I was down five pounds. Hopefully I can lose the rest of the 5 pounds in the coming week.
