Another low carber here. I used to be able to lose weight by counting calories alone, but since I've gotten older, low carb is the only thing that seems to help. Anyone who has blood sugar issues (not just those who have diabetes) will have a harder time losing weight in a traditional way. Diabetes runs in my family. I just got done reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), and it explained a lot. I had also read the Gary Taubes book, "Why We Get Fat". I'm trying to eat 20 - 25 carbs a day for awhile, and then later on down the road I'll add more. Everyone has their own level of carbs that allows them to lose weight, and by adding carbs slowly, I can decide what level of carb consumption gives me a weight loss per week that I'm satisfied with. It's frustrating to be on a traditional diet that's not working, and then others with different metabolisms will tell you what they think you are doing wrong. I'm so glad that I seem to have found what works for me.
