Hi - thought I'd try to take control of my lax eating habits before it became a new years resolution.

So, the calculation says I should lose 0.4kg per week. Then it says by February 3 I should have lost 0.9kg. So, in five weeks at 0.4kg a week shouldn't that be a 2kg loss? Where does the 0.9kg come from?

Calorie deficit per day would be 400 x 7 plus additional 900 in exercise calories = 3700, which is where the 0.4kg loss comes from. At 0.9 kg per 5 weeks I'm almost disillusioned before I start.

Your diary is not public and you have not given enough details for an exact explanation.
So assume your daily Calorie goal was set at 1520 Calories. I assume you clicked the "Complete This Entry" on your Food Diary page. The calculation provided by clicking Complete This Entry would be in line with your set goal only if your logged Net Calories was exactly 1520 Calories for that day. If you were over your Net Calories goal by, let's say, 25 Calories for that day, the computation would assume that "if every day were like today," you would not reach your five week goal of a 2 kg loss.
Basically, in the end, the calculation is just an estimate based off of one day's Net Calories logged. Don't put too much emphasis on that calculated number.

Thanks for the reply - not sure I fully understand as I was just at the preliminary set-up stage, not having logged my food consumption for the day (so far) nor the exercise done. Hopefully all will become clearer as I become familiar with the everything.

Be careful also on your exercise calories...the common understanding is that machines and MFP overestimate so eat back 50-75% only

I'm not sure what your 5 week estimate is if you haven't completed your diary yet ...so just ignore it for the moment

    And good luck
