Do you ever find yourself holding back from talking about your love for fitness and eating well from friends and family because you know they just don't get it?

Yeah. Especially when they either have drastically different ideas (i.e., healthy = no gluten, no sugar) or clearly feel threatened by such wild statements as "there is a lot of sodium in prepared soup, so we don't really buy it..."

    lol

    But seriously. Yeah.

Yeah. Most of my friends are overweight and I don't want to seem insensitive or like I'm rubbing it in. It's different with family though - sister has an ED so me losing my excess weight is a subject to steer clear from there, too. I'm actually getting a little disheartened at only having this place to talk about it on as I don't want to mention anything on FB until I reach goal so I can post a before/after. I did have a nice conversation with my haemotologist about my weight loss, though, as my medication is given as 1mg for every kg and I've lost about 20kg so it had to be altered.

I don't talk about it with my mum, because she doesn't like to be 'preached to' - but my dad and I talk about it. When it comes to people outside of my family, I get peppered with questions about my weight loss now (namely, what am I doing differently?) and sometimes, I wish I didn't have to talk about it... People don't seem to understand the concept of 'calorie counting', they always want to know what I've stopped eating and they're always disappointed to find out that the answer is 'nothing'.

Yeah no. Because I don't really talk about my health or fitness - mostly because no one cares but me.

Yeah, I totally agree with you! Aside from here on MFP, I very rarely discuss my weight loss unless someone else asks and seems truly interested. But more and more I don't want to talk about it because I feel like 99% of the time the person tunes me out totally if I explain anything about calories, MFP, the foods I eat, etc...even if they keep asking Q's I will see them join MFP and then leave and tell me about how "Connie at work has this (insert crazy expensive gimmicky product) I'm going to try" and then a year goes by and they have lost nothing, or lost a few lb and gained it all back and are miserable and frustrated.

On the brighter side though, I have one friend who immediately joined MFP, has been logging everything and walking a lot, and has lost around 30 lb and looks and feels wonderful. So to me it IS worth it for that one person it mattered to!

But yeah most times I just say as little as possible, now that I've been ignored so much from "people who really want to know my secret" and hope it's something like No Kix cereal after 3:15 pm & No sugar/gluten except on Thursdays.

Pleased I'm not the only one then ha. Just had to ask having sat listening to every one talk about the new diet they are going to commit to for their new years resolution. When I tried to suggest eating at a deficit and exercising they looked at me as though I was alien.
