question about one a day vitamins... may be TMI

I recently started taking a one a day vitamin again because I was not getting all of the nutrients I need with my diet. However, when I take them I have a really hard time going to the bathroom.. does anyone else have this problem? Should I maybe take half of one a day? I get all of the fiber I need and drink more than 8 glasses of water each day and since I've cut out pop and diet pop it's the only thing I drink besides tea.

    It's because of the iron in the pill - it's very constipating. You can try two things:
    Taking the vitamin at night helps with the absorption since your digestion slows down at night. I found that it was less constipating that way. OR. Have your hemoglobin tested - as long as you fall in a normal range (which I usually just take to be 12+), then don't worry about the iron and switch to a gummy vitamin instead.

    I had been taking prenatal vitamins since I was like, 16 years old - but they wreaked havoc on my digestive system. Then two years in a row when I had my iron tested, I was at 13-14. So I figured I'd ditch the iron-rich pill and switch to the gentle one. I take the Vitafusion Complete Multivites gummies. And my iron is still normal.

    Be careful though - if you're not taking the iron-fortified supplement, watch your calcium intake. Keep it to 2-3 servings of dairy a day or your iron will probably bomb.

    If the one a day is causing issues maybe try switching to another vitamin.. or keep an eye on your diet and forget the vitamins all together. You can get what you need from diet alone.

    Vitamins, if you take them, should be cut in half when you can. Your body can only absorb so much at a time so you won't absorb all that's in the vitamins.

    I just took half of one with lunch and plan on taking the other half with dinner
