I've read it before... just checked now to confirm it was the same one... My thoughts are kind of complex.

Calvin and Hobbes works for me because Watterson defied our world and it's petty conventions. Calvin is larger than life despite being smaller than Moe. Hobbes is a stuffed tiger but wiser than Yoda. His parents don't even have names... nor do they need names... Calvin's world is the perfect menage of reality and surreal imagination.

You see, I want to believe a desk can turn into a dinosaur and run away... a plastic gun can transmogrify Calvin into a tiger or a worm or an owl. I don't want limits to Calvin's imagination.

Although I understand the desire by many fans to have closure, this account tied Calvin to humanity... limits him to a frail human body... Bringing the loose ends together, so to speak.

I prefer Watterson's ending... heading out in an unknown direction to adventures yet imagined. I prefer Calvin to be immortal with Hobbes forever by his side, gently chiding Calvin for his excesses and relishing his company.

Bravo sir. Really enjoyed this comment.

When my son was younger we read C/H together, and now I'm reading them with my daughter. She wanted us wodse9h1va8w.jpg
to try drawing them last week, and this is what we came up with...

I want this as my computer screensaver. This is pure bliss. I remember getting so excited when a new book would come out. I'm pretty sure we have them all.
